Thought I'd pass along this harp-l email from Sonny's fiancee...
"Harp friends and colleagues...... This is Sonny's fiancee posting. Just to let you know that Sonny has been hospitalized for an indeterminate period of time. The prognosis isn't terrific and we're just taking things one day at a time. As an FYI, he doesn't have phone or email access at the hospital. Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. Kay" ----------

I wish him well And hope he pulls through whatever it is that is ailing him.
He has been quite helpful to me in the brief exchanges I have had with him. and completely matter of fact honest to the point of talking me out of an amp and to get one from a competitor because he felt their amp was what I was looking for.
Anyone who does business with that level of class has my admiration.

I'm not much of a praying type of guy but for Gary I'll certainly give it a shot every time I fire up the Super Sonny. ---------- Skinny Dog

I've known Gary for many years and although we've only met in person once, we've spent many hours on the phone together and I consider him a good friend. He has suffered from a number of pretty serious physical maladies that have at times caused him great pain. I hope for the best for him. ---------- /Greg

I met Kay and Gary in San Jose a few years ago, and I've spoken to Gary on the phone many many times. Over about four years I've purchased three amps from him and I swear by them. In our last two conversations, he had hinted to me that I needed to make sure I was set with tubes, and made some references to not being around to service his amps. I think he wrote something similar to Dan Dial (King Biscuit) when Dan purchased his Avenger. If you can, send some positive energy out to him through your thoughts or prayers?

I don't know him personally, only by his work and by anecdotes of friends. But that's enough to know he is a great contributor to the harp community. I can walk to the local blues club in Hobart Tasmania and there's a sonny jr amp in use, sounding great. I go to a pub in the bush and meet Ian collard who tells me about his amps, and about his dealings. To me that's a guy who has a reasonable impact on his world. All the best Gary, I hope you get well soon.

Latest word from Kay, posted to Harp-l, is that he might be released from the hospital in another week, depending on his progress, and that SJ will be taking time off from business to attend to his health. She also says that she is compiling the well-wishing emails to take to Sonny at the hospital. So fingers crossed! And keep up the good thoughts.

Best wishes to Sonny. I've had the pleasure of using a SJR410, then an Avenger for over a decade and have always marveled at the depth and power of the tone they've given while looking so good.
I've also enjoyed speaking to Sonny a few times over the phone, conferring about tubes, even getting some playing tips from him. I have always appreciated his directness and the intensity of his drive in doing what he loves, and, more importantly, cares about. Such people are rare.
Once again, high hopes for improvement of health for Gary, and best wishes for Gary and Kay in general.
