Great interview. Kinda dispels the myth that there were not many good harp players around back in the day.

Like today, there are a lot of good players, but still only a few great ones.

Maybe I'll sign up to Blues Harmonica.com just for the interviews.

Anybody seen the whole interview?

I love it...I am shocked no one has jumped down his throat on this board for his comments about Sonny Boy and Junior Wells.

Junior Wells' licks are mostly Little Walter licks?

That's an amazing bit of interview. Incredible. Invaluable. Billy Boy was there with boots on the ground when all the good stuff back then was happening, he was thinking critically about every player in his orbit. He had no gods--except, arguably, John Lee Williamson and Little Walter.

Billy Boy Arnold is like all of us! He's got his preferences, he's judging these guys right and left, but he's got a whole series of different filters: Big Walter could play but he couldn't sing. Little Walter had the whole package.

David Barrett deserves high praise for the brilliance with which he guides this interview without ever forcing it. One of the best harmonica clips--without a single note played--on YouTube. It's all here. The whole culture of 1950s Chicago is right here.

Start at 5:40. I wish I "couldn't sing" like that.

@7LimitJI - The interviews on David Barrett's site are worth the price of admission. He's good at making people feel at ease and getting information out of them.
