I've listened to each video once. Like the good professor that I am, I've given them numerical grades on a 0-100 scale, with 95, for example, being an A, 90 being a B+/A-.

18 out of 24 entries scored a 90 or above, and nobody got less than a B-. That's extremely good. I'm very impressed.

8 out of those 18 scored 94 or above. We're through the prelims, in other words. Eight players have, by my lights, a grade of A/A- or A.

The semifinalists, in alphabetical order are as follows:

12gagedan
BrotherAndy
HarpKeyAl
jodanchudan
ridge
surrealldeal
Throttleskeezer
ToddAllenGates

I will be relistening to the videos by these contestants later this evening, will make my decisions about a winner and two runners-up, and will sleep on the results. I'll announce the winners tomorrow morning by 10 AM CST.

Folks, I'm going to need some more time to come up with a winner. I'm heading out for the weekend--a Little Walter event down in Cajun country--and after listening to the top 8 videos at least five times apiece, I've managed to narrow them down to a Top 4, with two runners-up. You guys have made this hard for me!

Please be patient, and please accept my apologies. I'll be back late on Sunday and will do my damndest to wrap up everything then and announce a winner first thing on Monday morning. I'm extremely impressed with the overall level of competition and humbled by the challenge of picking a winner.

In the meantime, you may certainly use this thread to discuss the entries.

Back atcha soon, at which point I will be giving away cash and goodies......

I don't think too many of you guys saw this one. I used it to make sure I knew how to embed (on the practice thread) I was getting a little punchy, wrestling with my insanity (this, friends is why I don't perform others' solos in public. . . It's never ever good enough for me) Anyway, I threw up my hands, tossed out an F-Bomb and just let-er-rip. I think it's funny, so now that it's all over but for the splitting of hairs, here you go for a laugh.

@kudzu

Great idea. Fun concept. Sure wouldn't want to be the one to make judgement of which is best....Most sound great to me..

I totally agree with The Iceman, "Great idea, Fun concept". I have one question. Being a brand new poster to the Forum, and to posting videos in general(this challenge was my first video ever), I'm unfamiliar with the 'embedding' process you folks referred to many times in the thread. Is there an online "How To" or description of the process that I can learn from? Going foward, I'd like to be prepared, so I can submit an actual video here and not just a link. thanks for your guidance. Congratulations to all the participants, you guys (and gals) ROCK!! And thanks to Adam for the opportunity and the motivation! Peace

@Bluevooch. There is a "How to" section on the first page of the forum near the top but I think the section on embedding is out of date.

Try this

1. Display your video on YouTube.

2. There are some buttons just below the video "Like", "Add to", "Share", "Flag". Select (left click) the Share button.

3. Some new buttons will then appear. Select the Embed button.

4. A little window will appear with three lines of text beginning with the word < iframe. It will be highlighted blue. If it's not blue, left click it and it will turn blue.

5. Right click the text and select "copy".

6. Now, go to the forum and start a post.

7. Right click anywhwere in the post window and "paste" that little bit of code which you copied previously.

8. Give your forum post a title, and add any comments you want to make and it's done.

Congratulations to the final 8..its going to be a long wait for you :) !!
this was a super learning experience! whats more is this competition has gotten me charged to learn the instrument with a renewed passion!

I have been playing for a little under two years now and need to progress from here on. I would really appreciate if I cud get a feedback on my vid and areas I need to work on..I had no ideas how to play octaves and am finallly able to play them now after this competition..like wise if you guys can give a feedback on my vid and suggestions to improve, will really appreciate!!!

Thanks Everyone and especially Adam for an amazing experience!
looking forward to the results and of course the next "throwdown: :)

Adam, maybe you could ask the HCH headliners if they'd like to select and judge future throw downs. They'd get to pick the passage, then judge or judge finalists if time was an issue. It would be pretty cool to get guys like Mitch or Billy Branch, or Sugar Blue, or whomever to be a part of this. That would be as good as any prize money ( Sugar Blue watched me yay!). It's just a thought I had.

@Bluevooch - I was pretty new to this, too - found out you also have to make sure your YouTube video is not locked in "private" mode, which must be the default. You have to click the icon to "public" or it won't be able to be watched. Amazing that pasting the code is all it takes and it miraculously turns into your video!

Tooka, you're right, the how to page doesn't mention having to press the share button then the embed button. I'll make a note to update that. I should have caught that.

@nacoran. Maybe I can make a little video to show the current steps that could be linked from the How-to page? YouTube evolves so quickly it will be out of date next year but the basic steps should be the same but maybe just in a different place.

@nacoran please see my latest post ref. embedding.

Tooka, sure, if I can only figure out how to make videos! I'll try to get around to it later this week.
