A lot of people are posting on youtube. I see links all of the time on various forums and facebook. For crying out loud, take the time to edit please. I get pretty tired of waiting a minute or two for something to happen, I usually try to scroll up or I just give up. There are lots of free programs out there, if you have a mac you already have one of the easiest best simple programs available. If Walter was writing this he'd record a song, I'll just say it straight.

Yes there are a lot of quality issues on YouTube uploads and I do take care with anything I upload. It may take a little longer to get it right but I think it makes for a better viewing experience.

That said, some of the most viewed virals with millions of hits have been made on mobile phones with low resolution and apalling sound issues.

In the end content is king no matter how it is served up. Unfortunately.

i'd guess a lot of them go from camera or phone directly to upload, with no processing in between. in their defense, doing video processing to make decent looking/sounding video can be pretty complicated, requiring special software that is often very non-intuitive, as well as heavy demands for cpu, memory, and disk space. that's a lot to ask from someone who doesn't really care about the quality.

I think there are a couple reasons it's getting so bad. First, YouTube has upped the length of what you can load, so there is less incentive to be concise. Second, it's become so easy to make a video that the entry bar has been lowered. You've got people loading stuff that aren't doing it because they are into making videos, but because they happened to have their phone with them when they saw something funny or thought of something to say.

Maybe YouTube could come up with some crowd sourced editing tools. I know you can annotate a video. Sometimes I see links from websites to a video where the link starts the video later in the video. If those tools were right on the video on YouTube maybe people viewing could 'vote' where the video should start. You could actually do that with a lot of editing tools. They key would be to let people view the project as a whole right from inside YouTube in some way that made sense to both the casual viewer and would be editors, and still left the original poster some control.

I understand that sometimes people don't want to go to the trouble to edit, afraid to try or just anxious to post, but I'm less likely to watch it. Like I said, my pet peeve. I spent over 20 years creating corporate slide shows and have made hundreds of videos myself.

I had a pet peeve once. I forgot to feed it and it died.
