I'm asking for support for the staff and faculty of Community College of Philadelphia in our wage and benefit struggle. If you can go to facebook occupy ccp and hit the like button this show support for us. This will drive the administration crazy. They want to give us almost nothing for raises and put in deductibles in medical insurance that make it almost useless. over the last thirty five years the Union has given back lots of stuff including wages to keep the medical benefits good now they act as if that never happened. The President of the college is fourth highest state employee making 240 a year plus 37,500 for housing and transportation. The college just bought property for 5 million cash.
They have more than enough money. What they don't give to us they give to themselves as raises and bonuses. Administration's salaries have gone from 14 percent to 21 percent of the college budget over the last 7 years. The college in house lawyer alone went from 90,000 to 161, dollars in the same time. I make 18.49 an hour after 23 years.
So if you can please go to occupy ccp on facebook and hit like.

If it makes you feel better Diggs I'm self employed and made the same money last year that I made 20 years ago, have to pay for all of our insurance and it goes up almost as fast as our national debt. Go after them, the squeaky wheel gets the grease hopefully. Or better yet, tell'em to fuck themselves.

will do. I teach public high school. The wages are good and the benefits great. Many in my profession complain about the pay and the benefits getting cut regularly. I only work 183 days a year. For me, living hand to mouth for 25 years taught me how to live conservatively. To have sick pay, be paid when school is out, is still a very moving thing. It use to be as soon as the gig was over I was once again unemployed and no play meant no pay. That motivated me to no end to keep 200 odd dates a year and even with that I had to do day labor work much of the time. Hopefully they can't mess with your pension. I can retire in 10 years with 3,5000/month. Until recently many laughed at public school teachers pay. Now they are lining up to apply for a job. Done. While some teachers are examples of the 'those who can't, teach, there are also great teachers who can, and still teach and make amazing teachers. Those who can't teach become politicians and try to cut everyone else's pay.
