How 'bout those nights where you feel like you played great, but you really prob'ly just played alright vs. other nights where you mebbe don't feel as great about yer performance, but the rest of the band felt like you were really on?,,or mebbe the crowd loved it and yer goin' "what the...?"

I get that a lot, and usually leaning towards the latter. I'll jump off stage fuming, remembering every clammed note and off harmony, but the band (and the crowd) are all smiles.

I am the other way. Performances are for fun. I leave my critic's notebook at home.

I almost always get compliments from my band mates and the crowd. Sometimes I feel like I've done a good job, and other times...well...there's really no other way of saying this, other times I think I sound like total shit. All depends on how much energy I have to start off the night, and how quickly I fade. But I've learned one thing when it comes to the crowd, and I'm sure most of you would agree. Onstage, if you act and play like you know what you're doing, the crowd will always love what you're doing.

took me a long time to accept a compliment without arguing. finally realized the proper response is "thank you".

@garry: I've been aware that I probably don't let people connect with me well when they're paying me a compliment either. There's some kind of happy medium there where you allow them to get the benefit of expressing their pleasure to you without eating up your whole break or lettin' everybody else tear down while you gab.

My pet peeve is people who won't leave me alone while I'm trying to set up. Major PITA.

But, I figure the most tactful response to an undeserved compliment is, "Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it." Or, "I'm so glad you enjoyed it because I have so much fun doing it."
