harmonica participation:

1. Soloing
2. Fills
3. Backing

Maybe
4. Not playing
5. play on the beat if no drummer.

Points which newcomers to jams might already know, but listening and reacting to the mood, taking it down, playing soft, and feeling are pointers for the newcomer.

Guitarists/singers have their agenda and you move to that; and therein lies the strength of our instrument, adapdability and encouragement to others, playing on or off the beat, around and across, to create new structure.

Just some stuff that occured to me, after last nights session when most people were ill, and there was just one acoustic guitar and one sax, but still the audience were appreciative:)

How about guiding, as in leading a singer back on key.

Singers can't go off key. They are modulating. By decree (by lead singers) if they are in a different key you are in the wrong key. :)
