Hi Everybody,

I have the opportunity to buy a Seydel Hyperamp for a fairly good price, but I can't find very much information on this amp. The only thing I found is a YouTube video by Harpsucker:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeYzq-Cc-Xo

What I'm curious about is if you guys have played this amp, and your thoughts about it. I want to use it to play with my band in small jams/bars.

Cheers,

Eric

I haven't played it, but I gotta say I like the look of it! Reminds me of some of the old Silvertone amps that have become such gems in recent days. I certainly like this a lot better than the Hohner Hoodoo Box, which I did get a chance to play through one time. Interesting looking little combo, but not a very good choice for any kind of gig.

Getting info on these amps and mics that are put out by the harp manufacturers can be pretty tricky. Like the ill-fated Seydel Groove Mic...it was a really slick looking wood mic. But it just wasn't fiscally practical for Seydel to produce en masse, and there were other issues with the designer's fabrication methods, so it pretty much died before it ever hit the streets.

Keep us posted on whatever you decide to do on this Eric!

These amps list for 1995.00. I can think of a lot of vintage low watt 1X10 amps I could get for a lot less. Kendrick, Victoria, Sonny Jr., Harpgear, Mission and others have some pretty tasty new ones built for harp for less. Without trying it, I'd be reluctant to spend much on it.

@rbeetsme

Where did you see 1995.00 at? I did a currency conversion from the 1172.27 Euro price on the Seydel website and came up with just shy of 1500.00. Course there may be other factors I'm not taking into account.

Even so, all the aforementioned new harp amps are domestic and this one is German-made (I'm assuming). Seeing all the price hikes from the German harp companies of late, I wouldn't be too surprised at a higher price on this thing.

Hey rbeetsme, I can buy it for 500,- euros second-hand, so that makes a difference I guess. What I'm mostly curious about is if you guys have played this thing. .

This is the first time the Hyperamp has been mentioned on the forum. That being the case, chances are that no one on MBH has played through one. Maybe the Seydel guys on here have though. jim?

I know one guy on facebook named Thomas Jensen, he's a Seydel rep in Copenhagen. Maybe try getting in touch with him...

Hi guys,
I got a hint from a friend that perhaps I could answer your questions - here is a link to the owners manual of the hyperamp - there you can see how the amp works and is built. The unique thing with it is the dual input (low or high impedance mics, but not usable at once) - and what is even nicer - it has a tube-driven built in Spring reverb if you look for the HA1510REV model:

BTW: I found this with me playing the hyperamp live:

and this one:

I used a Lonewolf Harpdelay pedal along with the built-in reverb.

Thanks Mario!!! ;-)

Never heard of this amp before. 10-20W and a single 10" is loud, but not loud enough for many jam and live performance situations. It sounds like a really good amp - but the price is exorbitant. For LESS MONEY you can get a Sonny Jr Avenger, for chrissakes - with FOUR speakers and a lot more power - and have one of the most killer harp amps ever made. Or an HG50 1210. Or.....

@ Greg

Or...if we went into guitar amps...

A '59 Bassman LTD reissue, or a Princeton Reverb reissue...

But keep in mind that he's got the chance to buy the Seydel amp for 500 Euros ($647), and not the full MSRP. He couldn't get any of these other amps new for that little, and very unlikely that he could get a used one for as little as that either.

Hey Greg,

Like HawkEye said, I can get it for a lot cheaper than the original price. My budget is also around that price (around 500 - 600 eu). About the volume of the amp; I can plug it through a PA for live performances, right?

Eric, originally you were asking if any of US have played through one. I think a question we need to ask is: Have YOU played through the amp in question to make sure it's in good working order? After all, there could be a reason why it's marked down so heavily...

And according to the amp's specs posted online, yes, you should be able to run the amp into a PA since it has a DI built in. I don't know whether or not this will cut off the amp's speaker though.

....if you take alook at the back you will see a DI-out on the Hyperamp so no problem to get it louder through a PA.

At that price it sounds like a good deal - provided you like the way it sounds.
