Beeing an intermediate lipblocking player I have more and more switched to TB. I have mostly played Promaster, which I do like, size, " mouth-feeling ", tone etc. BUT especially when doing glissandos I feel that the comb (partitions ) is pretty rough against my tongue causing salivation reflexively. This problem does not occur when playing Lee Oskar or another plastic combed harp. I`would rather not give up my Promaster, but.. Promaster-players, do You recognize Yourselves? How did You manage the problem? Thanks for Your tips and advice!

metal combs have a chemical reaction with your saliva, the reedplates, and the covers.
Basically, you have Cu + Ni in any harmonica.
A metal comb like on the promaster adds "Al" to the combination, making it electrolytic.
Some feel it, some don't. The reason why I never play aluminum combs. ----------

If you like the Promaster you should try the Fire Breath. It is a very nice rosewood comb and a superior tone. My gig set is all Fire Breath's for what that is worth. ---------- snakes in Seattle

I have a Promaster and a Hammond, which is basically the same except for the balck annodize on the comb and black lacquer on the cover plates. I notice the electrolitic reaction on the Promaster but not on the Hammond. I don't know why the difference iunless the promaster comb is not annodized. I would expect it to be clear annodized after machining but, maybe not.

Promaster, Hohner Meisterklasse, Seydel Favorte are all anodized aluminum.
All have the same problem

Thank You for Your replies, BUT I thought the rough-sensations of my tongue were more due to physical reasons,i.e.straight angular partitions between the holes and ,maybe, too much tongue pressure against the comb. Seydel session steel? Manji?? Others??? Or corian comb with rounded partitions adjusted to Promaster reedplates?(any customizer out there doing that ????

Hetrick makes corian combs for ProMasters. Personally, I'm not all that wild about corian in general. But the Hetrick corian combs are really nice, although they do NOT have rounded tines.
