Are they available anywhere?
Background: I bought and loved a number of these harps back in the late 80's. They lasted for years, but got tired eventually. I put away my harps for years to raise kids, fix the house, etc. When I got back into playing years later I ordered some more of the Silvertones, but they were AWFUL. I tossed them into the boneyard, bought other harps and forgot about the Huangs until I found them while clearing out old junk.
The Huangs didn't play well, but might be tweakable. But the cover plates were poorly made and the screws won't hold them on because the holes were punched out too large. If I could get workable cover plates I'd put some time in to tweaking the harps. Otherwise they're just scrap.

The only way I know to get them is to buy the completed harps, but if you're having problems already with the new ones you just bought, I'm not sure what to advise you.
The ones from the 80's were far better than the ones out there today. My first harp was an 80's Silvertone in C and I still have it. It's a very unique harp in comparison to today's Huangs.
I think Frank Huang is running the company these days??? The last time I called them, the person who answered advised that they may not be in production any longer, though that was a couple of years ago and they're still around.
You may wanna check with John at Coast To Coast Music. He buys directly from Huang and may be able to offer more insight or assistance.
When Chamber Huang was still running the company, you could usually call and speak with him directly, and he was always more than helpful.

Thanks Todd. I saw your YouTube video going down memory lane about the Huangs. Couldn't agree more, I loved them. The Silvertones can still be had via Amazon & eBay, but I don't think I'd buy any more.

I like the Silvertones too. I wish I had some of the 80's models you're talking about, because I actually find today's Silvertones to be pretty decent budget harps. I'm wanting to try the Star Performers as well. I dunno about the cover plates though. Huang has no website to speak of. I have several blown out Silvertones. You can have the coverplates if you want them, easy, ----------
