Cristal, it's no use. Most of us are a bunch of boneheads who don't take much seriously. And that's when we're sober! In fact, eharp told me just last week that he went out to drown his sorrows because he bent a note! (That's what he told his wife anyway)

Aw Christelle, I'm bored of this......

You're superb. I'd eat turds for your tone and that is one of my favourite songs, so I'm really happy you've covered it.

I'm posting it back up here just to make a point that I'm a die hard fan in spite of your own self doubts. Sorry. It has to be done.

People love what you do. Please respect and appreciate that and please understand that so many here enjoy your gift.

Much love.

Steve

Edit: Yes, I know I'm out of line posting something Christelle deleted, but I've done it out of passion for her great gift and I think she needs to hear that she has at least one (and I'm sure many more) serious fans here. Apologies.

Christelle;

I will repeat Steve's sentiment.....beautiful playing to say the least. You have a great ability to take a "non-harmonica" song, and give it wings.

Thank you.

@Steve - I'm not bored with this! I love this forum, and reading this lot made me laugh after a long hard day of toil.

"... without being pretentious" made me realise this was going to be a sure winner before I read a word, and so far its exceded any expectations I could possibly have dreamed of.

How could Stan's comment cause Cristal to delete her own video? Anyone remember TNFrank? Could this be the start of an epidemic of deleting old posts?

I'm off to bed now (i'm in the UK), but I'll log back on in the morning hoping for a flurry of activity.

I love this forum!

Very nice. She's great at transcribing songs for the harmonica. I don't get the reverse psychology.

Well she's gotten angry before because the videos she posted didn't get enough postive reponses fast enough (which is kind of strange for her to get angry at people for not commenting on her videos, when she herself rarely ever comments on anyone elses videos).

Christelle you have to be a little more patient when waiting for responses. And, as nacoran said, the CAPTCHA was malfunctioning for a lot of users. More importantly, you need to not take everything so personally. People aren't rejecting you just because you don't get a lot of comments on a video.
I think you're a great player, but you're letting your insecurities get the best of you. We all have insecurities, and we all need to work on keeping them under control.
Take Care.

OK, so I've learnt an important lesson. If you post and reference another forum member, use their full 'user name'.

I referenced 'Stan' above, but he has now caught the bug and deleted his own post! Is it me, are all of Cristal disciples mentally unbalanced? (eg "I'd eat turd's for your tone..." from Stevelegh above!!!) Not sure, but 'Stan's' user name might have been SteamrollerStan, or something similar (sorry if that is totally incorrect, but you should see why these deletions are a problem).

Nate - sorry, nacoran (I'm not sure who will get the bug next!) - would it be possible to alter the forum so content could be deleted but it would leave an 'empty post'? At least this may encourage people to leave some explanation as to why they are deleting their own posts? Personally I'd prefer to leave what is written there, and people having to correct in a new post, but I might be a bit hardcore.

All the very best to you all from the UK. My thought for the day is this - if we don't take ourselves too seriously, life will be much more fun.

@Jagrowler: 'Is it me, are all of Cristal disciples mentally unbalanced?'

I'd say nowhere near as bad as the Jason Ricci worshippers here.....

'cos I said I'd eat turds for her tone? It was just a turn of phrase. Chill, I'd had a few Glenfiddichs

Actually, if I could make a deal at the Crossroads and play like that for the price of chewing on a turd, I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one here who'd see that as a small price.

I don't know what the deal is with Christelle. I don't know her apart from her posts here. She does seem a very sensitive soul and needs some reassurance and I'm happy to do that as I think she's a more than great player, but I don't know what her deal is here, hence the 'I'm getting bored with this' comment.

I think one often overlooked factor on international forums is the time difference. Some people are just waking up and in quite a serious mood before work, whilst at the same time, others are ending their day and ready to party. Others may be sleeping, or at work which may be one of the reasons Christelle's vid appeared to be overlooked.

I've seen this time and time again. People act different at different times of the day.

"..I .just discovered that it was useless to share these videos of mine here..."

Why, because folks did not comment?

Hey, players of ALL levels (including myself) have posted videos here with little or no response.

I am also guilty of posting something I consider decent with hopes of a little recognition...but I am also an active member otherwise.

IMHO, a newbie that posts a video needs feedback much more than a pro player.

Do you comment when a rookie or intermediate like me posts a vid?

People don't always comment but your view count will usually go up, if that is what is important.

It is like others that post here ONLY when their band has a new CD or the poster wants a little self promotion. That is all great but join the fun the rest of the time.

I don't like the attitude...."I'll only use you MBH forum when it hopefully benefits ME in some way.

I still don't understand why people get upset when post numbers or opinions don't meet their liking.

If I let ANYTHING about this forum upset my emotions in a negative way, I would be gone forever. Life is too short. Stay away from the "victim" mentality.

Why hello, good morning everyone. I logged on to make sure the Captchas were working. They seem to be working.

Okay, so, chronologically, looking down this thread...

I don't know what caused Christelle to delete her post in the first place. Christelle, if someone said something offensive, let me know. Taking down a video just turns things into a big mess because it draws attention to it without dealing with any underlying problems.

Like Jag pointed out, people can delete whole posts and leave no trace behind. That's how the software works here. There is nothing we can do about it. The only time that stops is when a membership is terminated. If you are responding to a post you think may disappear, quote it in it's entirety.

So, going down the list-

Eharp- That's what families do.

So that takes us down to Jagrowler. I can't tell if he's quoting so I'm going to leave that alone.

Stevelegh- "I'd say nowhere near as bad as the Jason Ricci worshipers here..." That seems to be attacking both Ricci fans and Jason (and forum members). Please reread the creed.

Honkin- "What no request to be removed as a forum member?" Et tu Honkin?

Blessed are the peacemakers. I'm going to stop back in this thread later today. If you could self-edit yourselves I would really appreciate it. If this was a soccer match I'd be cutting out pieces of construction paper to make new cards. If it was a football game I'd be throwing my socks.

Don't make me throw socks. They smell and leave a bad taste in everyone's mouths. I've got them off. They are wet and slimy and ready to throw.

Hi Nacoran,

Apologies to all. Without digging a deeper hole for myself, I should have put a 'heh' in there. It wasn't a dig at either Jason or his fans who I am one of. I was suggesting that there's nothing wrong with putting the odd gushing post up for someone that you admire. Jason's the largest recipient of these and I was just drawing a parallel.

In my book no one is mentally unbalanced for being a fan of anyone's playing here as Jag suggested.

On another note: If the man at the Crossroads is reading, please post up a time and a place and bring turds (and just for the record: 'heh').

Apologies for my lack of clarity to all.

"Useless to post videos here"

In my opinion that would depend on the reason for posting a video. If the reason is to get as many comments as possible then yes, it "can be" useless. But only for the poster, maybe not the viewer.

If the reason for posting a video is to give joy or to show your music then it is not useless. No one has to comment for the music to be a good experience for the viewer/listener.

When someone as talented as yourself posts videos often , I personally get to a point where I'm just repeating myself in responses. "Great video." Another great piece." "Wow...made my day." And on and on. So my responses start to slow down because, well...what can I say? I'm a fan and if my initial responses were read then the musician knows it.

Now on the other hand, a beginner more like me would be most likely to get corrections and advice critique etc. I have posted videos that have just gone away without a single comment. All that does is make me try harder to get to the point where someone says "wow!"

But for an experienced and talented musician, no one is going to critique...they will only comment. Post enough songs and the comments start to slow down. Thee love of the work doesn't slow down; only the comments.

I think that if Little Walter himself was posting here that his first handful of videos would get tons of ass kissing comments. After awhile the comments would dwindle. He would already know he was good and well liked and everyone else would assume he knows they are fans based on there original comments. After that he would just be posting for our enjoyment.

Well, there are a couple of things that make it all ok in my mind. The first is that I am having fun. The other thing is that I figure I am playing to too many really experienced players here. When I play to people I know they are easily fooled into thinking I'm good!!!
That makes it all better.

I 100% agree with Tommy ie very well said.

Also I think that this forum is all about sharing. Whilst the posting of a video from any professional is great it is good to hear from those same experts with a few more details that might be really helpful to us mere mortals. Most do share & are very generous in giving of advice & help to others.

It's Thursday the 5th. The next full moon is Monday the 9th. The crazy stuff always starts four or five days out from the full moon.

Christelle, you're crazy. Thank God! (And welcome to the club.) That's the first prerequisite for being a strong harp player. I don't trust anybody who doesn't get a little bit tweaky with the Wolf is rising in their blood.

The only thing that saddens me is the sheer predictability of it all. It would be nice if you forumites paid at least minimal notice to your monthly cycles--I'm talking to the men as well as the women here--and found a way of ignoring the "strike back now!!" voices and urges. It would certainly make this place a little more friendly and peaceable. Less interesting, though.

i agree with tommy. posting vids for others that are waaay above one own's pay scale is a tad intimidating. you see this happen at SPAH. the big hitters sit in the circle, along with a few brave souls with, perhaps, more self confidence than skills, and a whole bunch a wannabes sitting outside the circle hoping to pick up something.

no one wants to put a piece of their heart and soul on the line and have it possibly kicked. (not that i've seen too much of that here. it is usually good, solid advice and encouragement.) heck, i think chris walked once because all of the comments werent positive. maybe it was only buddha that was a known to be a tad critical. you can see her get defensive when somebody critiques her playing, singing or choice of keys too much. diggs comment on one of her very recent posts is an example.

and lets be honest, christelle really only posts her vids, of her playing and her instructional youtubes. (which, btw, have helped my breathing!)

i am confident she is reading this thread. and i look forward to her return. (i'll check vegas for the over/under.)

i dont think the vocals is an improvement as much as this is a much better song for her. could be the key? maybe the style? i dont know, but it sounds much better.

i hope you sent this to knopfler. i really think he might be impressed.

as an aside- CAN WE PLEASE ALL STOP THE "NOTHING UP THE SLEEVE" routine at the beginning!
tell us what you are pantomiming. it's okay to talk about the key or song or mic!! imo- it looks foolish. (this aint directed nor meant as a criticism towards christelle, but the majority of harpsters!!)

Since I'm crazy I don't have any "friends" to play with, that's why I do these bullshit youtube videos, playing on crappy karaoke backing tracks...But it helps me to stay from crazy, to be insane besides my 4 hours practice regime. I'm nice but I've never known how to show it (I know I'm whining once again, but it doesn't matter)

It's difficult for me to comment on those vids, because mostly I don't like those songs (Sting, Knopfler etc.). All I can say is it's very well played, well sung, and very sensible interpretation. You put a lot of yourself in your playing.

Just post and take it as it comes!

I've posted near two months ago got some nice feedback and some heavy comments, also from Cristelle, the mind takes you to the negative, thats something that almost every human being does, that is in the western world.

Im not any different, however, a strong personality took me back to the comments and I'm working my ass off. That is on the parts I could work with, the rest is merely an opinion. There as many opinions as there are people. And the result are getting there........

So that leaves me with myself, and what I think about what im doing. The fun part is, after listening to something you've done half a year ago, to be honest, my comments are of the same level as the heavy comments that put me off in the first place. So that tells me that, when I grow, as a musician, as a person, I can read every comment as too being something that adds on to my life.

The Gloth hits another topic, opinions and taste.......... well, I want to play the blues, I hope I can find some people to listen to it. Cause Ill keep on making the music that I enjoy, I can only hope to enjoy some other people.

Theres a lot of sub streams into every kind of music which makes people that play the blues having different styles and tastes, I hear people say he's or she's playing like this and thats bad. Jazz tone is thinner then blues tone or something and they start judging the other player on the differences.

In short, dont expect to much from other people, expect it from yourselves.

Its difficult when you practice a large amount of time and to be with yourselves in this perspective. We all need social interaction and practicing a lot takes away a peace or a large amount of social interaction which in turn makes one more hungry for reflection.
