Hey folks,
A buddy has just 'donated' a seven-set of absolutely buggered Marine Bands. No idea how he hammered them this hard, but they're beyond salvageable.
I was thinking there must be some kind of interesting artistic use for these things - can't they be turned into a sculpture, an installation, some kind of awesome flair for one's harp case?
I've got a bunch of tools, a creative spirit, and some time to kill. Any ideas?

Save them for parts or sell them to someone who'll do that.

Take all the reeds off the plates, polish them up and turn them into ear-rings and necklaces. Show pictures of the designs. Sell them.

Hi Elwood,
There used to be a harp player on here who's wife used old harps in her quirky sculptures using found items.
Check out the following link. It may give you some ideas.

i've seen them used as handles for various cases. probably on a harp case was 1st. they would rock as handles for your kitchen cabinets. i've been working on an idea to use them as "shades" for decorative lights. maybe drilling some holes and stuffing some x-mas lights into them.

Something with a steampunk vibe; how about USB drive covers or some such? Belt buckles, or use a row to make a bunch of "blues medals" to wear on your chest.

I made a couple into Christmas Tree ornaments. Not artistic, but I made another into a Bluefish lure, haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

Old Dog, As you pull the harp lure through the water will the reeds vibrate? Perhaps you cold make an underwater version of a duck call!

the covers can be easily beat into fishing lure "spoon" got the screw holes in already,, one end for a split ring to put your snap swivel and line on, the other for a split ring to accept a treble hook
I like the Belt Buckle idea Bronze Wailer.. I think I will do that right away !!!
Hey, once I had a Pueblo , or Southwestern "Indian" style belt made of silver metal plate links with turquoise set in.. so why not link a whole string of MB cover together with wire rings and make an entire belt !!!
How about making a frame of them to go around your license plate
how about rolling one to make a guitar slide..?
How about a bridge cover for your guitar bridge ?
how about some windchimes for the wifes patio ...

i keep a busted one in my kit in case someone wants to "show me how it's done." during a block party, i pulled the busted one out after we wailed hoochie coochie man and spiked it onto the driveway. it broke into a couple of pieces. like an exclamation point to the song. that was a very well received stunt. (no one knew the harp was shot when i did it.) i like the cbg bridge idea.

Every once and a while I hear a genius idea on this forum. THAT was one of 'em! How badass would it be to have a Marine Band coverplate as a bridge on my CBG? I'm totally doing this...

I'm thinking a licence plate frame made of harp parts would be the cat's ass. Real curious to see how close 3 covers would be to the width. 2 is probably to much for the height. Experiment time right after work. ----------
