Leather shell? Thats a new one. Don't think you can ground it. I have found with some of my all wood shells that the only way I can get the hum out is when I touch the connector (metal). ---------- Lucky Lester

The shell doesn't have to be grounded though it is helpful with crystal elements for hum reduction. Just wire the element to the connector + and - and all will be well. I make wood mics. I equip them with CM or CR elements. I've sold hundreds. In all that time I've had 2 customers complain about hum - 1 was a bad cable and one was a ground problem in the power source. ---------- /Greg

You can either gamble and buy on eBay, or buy from a reputable collector/harp specialist. There are a few around, I'm one of them. ---------- /Greg

+1 on never seeing a leather shell mic. By chance do you have any pictures? Really sparked my interest here. ----------
