I hadn't seen these for awhile, but I got on Rockin Ron's site this morning and spotted it in his Hohner stock. MF and Sweetwater no longer have it.
I've got a buddy who plays Dylan-stand harp along with his guitar, and his dad is wanting to get him a neat looking harp for Christmas. Gotta admit, it is a really NICE looking harp. But....
Anybody ever gotten one of these? What's the skinny on the construct, tone, response, etc.?

No idea about the playability of them, however, once again, Hohner seems to be marketing a cheap harp with black covers, despite our several pleas for a SPECIAL 20 with black covers.
Whenever I've inquired about a Special 20 with black covers, their response is always the same - that players don't really want black covers. If this is the case, I wonder why they keep making harps like this one, and the Last Gasp, etc., with black covers.

The original pre-MS series Pro Harps were actually Sp20's with black matted covers on them and they weren't available in the US until just after they closed their Canadian HQ's in 1986, and then they were sold in the US and in 1992, became part of the MS series.
Hohner has had many harps like that over the years for marketing purposes. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

Yes, I still have several of those old pre-MS Pro Harps, and even a Pro Harp II, which was basically the same thing, but country-tuned, and labeled as Pro Harp II. Some had a matte finish, and some had a shiny finish, similar to the Suzuki Hammond, possibly a powder coating.
The old Pro Harp covers seem to be made of aluminum, while the Special 20's are not. I recently replaced the Pro Harp II covers on my Sandoval P20 harp with Special 20 covers and there is a tonal differene. Nothing major, but there is a difference.
I don't care for the MS version...

These harps are not very good. They're made in china. I would say they're about the quality of the blues bender, although most of those play better than the Steven Tyler artist series. The Steven Tyler signature series however are pretty nice harps. It's essencially miesterklasse reed plates on a blues harp comb with crossharp cover plates. These play and sound a thousand times better than the artist series.
The one thing i don't really like about either one is that they only come in the key of A.

So of the thirty bucks Ron is selling the Artist Series for, basically it comes down to most of the cost being attributed to Tyler's logo and name being on them?
I don't mind them being in A. Hell, that's the key I have in my hand most of the time in my band anyway since the majority of our songs are in E. ----------
