Has anyone here who uploads video's on youtube recieved an email inviting them to make money by letting youtube put adverts at the start of your video's???
I have followed the link and it takes me to youtube. I know its annoying to have adverts at the start of a youtube video but im curious as to how much money you could earn. Youtube do state that it depends on how many people check out the advert.
They also say that if you are covering a song they may take of off youtube all together so i would be worried about say nominating maybe my Juke video.
Has anyone on here taken up the offer?
If so, is it worth it? or is it chump change and more hassle than its worth?
Here are some of the gudelines :o)
What types of videos are eligible? The basic guidelines are simple: for a video to be eligible, you must own worldwide distribution rights to everything in the video and it must abide by our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
This means you have created everything in your video yourself, and that you have not sold exclusive commercial usage rights to anyone else. If your video contains content created by someone else, you must have their written permission to use and make money from it.
Examples of videos that could be eligible •You filmed your cat, and there is no background music. •Your video contains royalty-free music, and you can prove commercial rights by using direct links to the song and applicable licence. •Your friend's band wrote and recorded a song for your video and states in writing that you can use and make money from it. Which videos are NOT eligible? Your video is not eligible if it contains content that you didn't create or get permission from its creator to use. You need to be able to show written permission for the following video elements:
•Audio: recorded music, live performances, cover songs, background music, etc. •Visuals: images, logos, software, video game footage, etc. •Any other content to which you don't own worldwide commercial usage rights. Examples of videos that are NOT eligible •Your video contains a song you purchased for personal use (e.g. bought on iTunes or in a shop) but didn't obtain a commercial licence. •You found a video on the Internet and you cannot prove that it's in the public domain. •You are only singing words of your favourite copyrighted song •You have used content from someone else without permission, but you haven't yet received a copyright notice on your video. •You edit together or "mash-up" other works •You only use 30 seconds of a song or video clip •Your video does not provide proper attribution or credits as required by a licence

You choose which vids to monetize. Do not monetize Juke or anything with another person's creative work. The odds are they will not care. Advertising makes them money and they would probably let it slide. But you may get an unhappy surprise.
I am so concerned about it that if I use Band in a box for a backing track where I wrote the chord progression, I will not monetize because I did not create band in a box. Am I being too safe?
I have a friend who gets around 4000 hits per month on new videos and who knows how many hits on his many old videos. He makes around $250 per month.

Yes . BIAB is just the tool you created the music with. The music, the performance etc... that's still your intellectual property. For instance Little Walter played Marine Bands, but Hohner have no royalty rights to Juke.

It was a little annoying to set up the revenue sharing, but I think it's worth the effort. For the past 2.5 years, or so, I've received between $100-$150/month from youtube. I believe the youtube harmonica boom peaked somewhere between 2008-2009. That could just be my perspective, though. I haven't posted as many videos as frequently as I once did. The sheer number of videos available (IMO) has diluted the share of revenue dollars.
As for content, I strongly believe in copyrights. I only monetize videos in which the content is soley my work, or for which I've gotten express permission (in the case of duo vids, or where I reference Jon Gindick's names for certain licks). That said, any and all videos should help to create traffic to your other videos, so they don't all have to be monetized. ---------- 12gagedan's YouTube Channel

I got one too. Don't you have to pay $5 per video? Thanks for sharing the amount of hits and $ earned. I doubt it would be worth doing for most of us unless we do something stupid/be a clown/buffon. Walter, You do not have to pay anything. The company advertising their product is paying Youtube and you get a cut.

Michael: thanks. I started to go through the process and it said I needed to be connected with google of some sort and that was $5. Maybe I misunderstood it? I signed up to monetize, but haven't actually applied it to any of my videos.
My highest hit video is me playing Super Mario Bros. which I didn't write the music to. I don't know if this is crossing the line or not.

Yeah, I got an invitation recently too, I think mainly for my DIY videos (mic building, foot drum, cbg pickup, etc.). I thought "what the heck" and applied for a google adsense account, but never heard back. If they get me signed up, I think I'll give it a shot. If it's not too annoying for the viewer, I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to earn a bit of cash for putting up videos ppl find interesting, as long as it doesn't severely detract from the user experience (e.g., shoots 20 pop ups for penis pills). If it helps finance my harp habit, then why not? ----------
