Hi--Tonight I got to meet Dr. Jim Antaki, he's the guy who makes the TurboLids. He's got other projects too, some are still in the planning stages . . . But he showed me the latest version of the TurboSlide, the harp that uses magnets to bend the blow notes . . . What he pointed out to me was that it also enable the draw bends to be deeper, so I tried draw 5, and was able to bend it down a half step below blow 5! It also makes overblows smoother . . . Winslow bends draw 5 down to unison with blow 5 on his Dummies CD (the one that comes with the book). I have repaired so many harps with just that one reed busted . . . How far do you guys bend draw 5?

I can get a C harp's 5 draw to a very high E. I definitely use it as a substitute for E.
I also love using 8 blow bent below the single bend to a false double bend. In other words, I bend past Eb down to a false D, or very high D. This way I can play Jimmy Reed high note first position without drawing at all and when the band goes to the V chord, I am seemingly playing the fifth note in the V chord. So in the key of C on a C harp, the V chord is G. The notes in a G7 chord are G B D F, the D is called the fifth because it is the fifth note in the G major scale. By playing a false D , 8 "double" bend, I suggest the G chord without drawing.

Someone tested this on a thread a while back using a precision tuner.
You can bend down to within several cents of the lower pitched reed, but you can't get the true pitch.
Maybe close enough to use?

I've seen the video of the TurboSlide. It's pretty cool technology. When they get the full version all done up so it slides both ways I'll be interested in getting one.
edit: Harpdude, the thing with the TurboSlide is it uses magnets to change the frequency of the reeds with a slide. It's pretty cool technology.

How far draw 5 will bend depends on the key of the harp. Some keys will bend farther then others.

Thanks guys. Anybody ever valve blow 5 to get the draw bend to be lower? Hey that was weird, first time I ever had a recycled capcha--it was the second use!

"Hey that was weird, first time I ever had a recycled capcha--it was the second use!"
I get that all the time. I really need a hobby.
