I've been wondering, what does the dirty-south pre-title mean?

I like this question too. In my experience, relative to the muk and grime of the north, the south appears clean as awhistle.

? I was thinking there would be something more definative -unless urban dictionary counts(?). Is the "regional" reference accurate, or is the hip hop reference more relevant? I certainly don't know the origin but I would figure Adam could clarify this.

As a transplant from the Midwest to The Dirty South (Birmingham, AL) I'd say that it's complicated. It can be a somewhat endearing term if you're in a good mood and enjoying the the food, the positive parts of the culture and such. It can also be an acknowledgement of the really screwy stuff that goes on around here too. -Bob ---------- http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#!/pages/Bourbon-Bleach/161722307208585
