I'm sure that this won't be everyone's cup of tea, but these guys are on the right track for making blues music relevant to today's hipster-centric music scene. They are definitely taking cues from bands like The Black Keys and The White Stripes, but they are fully featuring Blues harp, and doing pretty well!
I'm curious to hear the thoughts of other folks about them...
It sounds like the harp is mostly used as an effect. Pretty middling harp playing, really.
Not bad.
To me, The Black Keys are tons better. -Bob ---------- http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#!/pages/Bourbon-Bleach/161722307208585

If you wanna hear killer 'Black Keys-esque' Blues, Check out the latest Johnny Sansone album, 'The Lord is Waiting and the Devil is too'. Johnny on harp and vox, Stanton Moore on Drums, and Anders Osborne on guitar thru an octave pedal. Very raw, very awesome.
I was standing right next to the guy that filmed this:
I fully agree that these guys are not anywhere nearly approaching the 'Key's level of awesomeness! Also agree that as a harp player, I think that the harp playing is just so so. But they've definitely latched on to the kind of "modern blues" sound that kids are into these days, and so are doing pretty well on the indie rock scene for new band in this vein. It's definitely NOT the same old blues that one hears at any one of the multitude of blues jams occurring around the country, and I think that that's probably why they can play blues and still appeal to the youths of today!
I'll def check out Johnny Sansone! thanks for the tip! ---------- == I S A A C ==
You're right, Isaac. Anything that appeals to the younger crowd will inevitably open some of their ears to deeper explorations into the blues, so the band you posted is definitely going to be instrumental in doing just that. ---------- Todd L. Greene
Nice, almost sounds like they're shooting for the blues side of Tom Waits to me with the heavier guitaring of White Stripes or The Black Keys. Harmonica is okay, clear single notes anyway. I'd love to get in a group with a sound like this.

Thanks for linking that vid stick! They sound great, but agree that they would need some variety. It's never a good thing when all the songs start sounding the same, even if it's a good sound to start with!
Oh, and I checked out Johnny Sansone, Todd. That's some mean stuff!!! I really dig it. I'm starting to play with a guitarist friend of mine, and that's kind of the sound we are trying to get after. thanks for pointing me in that direction! ---------- == I S A A C ==
