When I started harp a few years ago I had a goal in mind to someday be part of a pretty good local band. I auditioned and finally got in what I consider a pretty darn good blues band.
The Back Talkers have their first gig this weekend. The set list includes a lot of Muddy's stuff...also Cotton and SBW.
These guys are not about being a jam band. Their focus is on a combination of the Chess stuff mixed in with West Coast Swing Blues. It has required a lot of woodshedding on my part.
I am soooo glad you guys kept pushing that I should learn tongue blocking as well as pursing. These guys want a lot of tradition.
It totally blew me away when the guitarist asked why I didn't play along with the vocals on Muddy's stuff like Little Walter sometimes did. I told him I always got my wrist slapped for that.
This forum has been a HUGE part of my musical journey. All you guys that helped with sound, mics, amps, and all the tech stuff have been super. A big thanks to you theory guys as well. Understanding positions and what works where and when means a lot.

This sounds like a perfect scenario for a harp player - good luck with the gig! Are you going to video it?

Thanks Jordan and yes...we should have video on the web site next week.
It does sound too good to be true, but these guys sent me Cotton's version's of Flip Flop Fly, Rocket 88....My Babe by LW,etc. to learn.
Lucky for me they are all harp fans.

Duane, I'm not as brushed up on my classic blues as I should be...was that song My Babe originally by Willie Dixon or is it LW's own concoction?

I don't know who wrote My Babe..but they sent me the LW version.
THanks eharp...I think the name is pretty cool. I'll try to post video next week.
