Hi,
My wife was nice enough to get me a new harp case as a gift, and we ordered it from Slim's Custom Cases, over in the UK. The site and the work is by Christian "Slim" Jackson. He has posted here, and that was, I believe, how I first found his site.
Slim's Custom Cases
Well, it's here, and I couldn't be happier. The whole experience of explaining to Slim what I needed for fit and finish was quite painless, and where there were questions about my gear, we took measurements. He was professional, easy to work with and it arrived when he said it would, well packed and fits my mics and harps quite well.
The cost was reasonable, I think, for the quality and amount of detail. The base case cost was around $180, but I got some extras. Turnaround time was about 30 days, including shipping internationally.
This a very sturdy, well built case, and has some features I specifically wanted, like a removable bottom compartment for mic cables and so on, and the ability to mount the case on a typical microphone stand.
Here are some pictures of it partially loaded. The rectangular spot in the lower right center compartment is for my Lone Wolf delay, but I don't have it here at the moment.

FYI...I don't have any association with Slim other than as a satisfied customer. If anyone has questions about the case or the purchase, I'd be happy to answer them here, or can be reached at jconcilus bssd.org.

I like it, I think. I'd have to gig with it to know. Our case is essential because we have to really use it during a show. Finding the right case has been a deal for me over the last 2-3 years. I was happy with my tackle box until it finally crumbled and then I tried two different options that I wasn't happy with -the harp access wasn't easy enough to sort quick during shows. My latest case seems great so far but it still takes time to use it right.

very cool, but $180 for a case? wow. not saying it aint worth it. i, too, would need to use it to see if i would spend that on a case. john- you carry nothing else, right? except an amp?
me? i carry a harp case (hal irwin), that just holds harps and 2 mics, an amp and a bag with a pedal and cords. the case is good but sort of needs to find a home on stage.
while yous fits onto a mic stand, it seems like it would be unbalanced and easy to get knocked over. have you tried it? does it seem secure?

I like that tweed look, Littoral. Cool one.
I have not tried the new case on a mic stand since I just got it unpacked and set up. I was going to do that, and take a picture to post, but I lent my only stand to someone last year and discovered last evening that I didn't get it back...lol. I'll get try it and post pics. A tripod stand may be the way to go instead of round-bottom. I'm pretty short, though, so center of gravity may be low enough to be pretty stable.
I usually just carry a small amp to mic, but sometimes a head and a cabinet. Slim made me an extra cutout insert for when I want to carry my EV N/D 468 and an XLR cable in the bottom compartment for going through the PA. I did not post pictures of that cutout.
He has better pictures of my case on his site some told me where you can see the cutouts more clearly.

Yes a tripod stand is the best and the case's I make are very stable on the mic stand due to the solid block of wood running through the centre fixed at 3 points to the case. i have seen customers using a round base mic stand with them though.
Thanks for your kind words John.

John... that's a real nice looking case ! The bottom part that you have the cable in looks like it could be used for a small pedal board.
I use a tripod mic stand for my home-brewed harp case... I shortened mine a bit to make it the right heighth for me... very stable.

Tripod mic stand on order...the one I lent out is a goner...lol. It's always something.
And the pleasure was all mine, Slim. I appreciate the craftmanship of this case. Very nice work, and attention to detail.

Johncn,
what does your case look like closed up? i was wondering how you keep the harps from falling out of their slots while you put it back together.

All of the harps and mics stay firmly in place because Slim sent me a mock up photo with cutouts of common harp-related items he uses as shaping forms. He then plugged in my measurements of items he didn't have a cutout template for....and it works great.
Here is what it looks like. The only thing that wiggles a bit is the bottom slot for the chromatics. It has a bit of a gap no matter which chromatic I put in there...you can see it in the picture. The other slots are all so tight that I can hang the case upside down and things stay right in place...lol.

Here is the case without the optional bottom compartment, and with it attached. Both "bottoms" have non-skid feet.
