i just woke up this morning and turned the telly and saw this video and i was not shure of what was happining to mtv its kinda blues/soul what do you think.
I've heard of this guy. Musically, he kinda reminds me of a young Stevie Wonder. He's released a couple albums of this kind of stuff. Not bad.
In terms of harp, there are a few artists out there who are bringing blues harp back to mainstream MTV-type music. G. Love and Steven Tyler to name a couple. The guy playing harp on the Saadiq album is a guy named Darrell Mansfield. He's on reverbnation. ---------- Hawkeye Kane
Yes, this is Darrell Mansfield... he played this on the late show with this guy too. I find it odd that Darrell Mansfield, being an outspoken "gospel" player, would play on this song, which certainly promotes things and themes to the contrary. Doesn't make a shit's worth of difference to me, I'm not religious... just an observation. Don't mean to get on a religious note at all... not my intention. (Not even looking for a response to my comments here.)
Regardless, I think it's a great groovy song and I like the harp. I need to to check out some more of this Raphael guy's music. I'm surprised that this style made it to MTV. Pretty cool...
Yes, and in keeping with the times, this guy and/or the record label chooses to replace the Real Harmonica player with a more appealing (to the masses) substitute for the video!! Milly Vannili style!!
