Duster Bennett was a British player - he died young some time in the 70s.

There's a few bits on YouTube.

Duster put a bucketfull of soul into the harp with this one.

Sad, sad story. A great loss to blues music.

He died at aged 29 driving home after a gig - if my memory serves me correctly his wife was pregnant with their third child.

He was an incredibly talented multi instrumentalist who played with most of the top players on the London 70's scene - Peter Green, John Mayall etc.

In the UK Blue Horizon have re-released a lot of his work. The energy on the recordings is unbelievable.

The authorised biography by Martin Clemis is a very good read, both inspiring and due to his early death very sad.

In my humble opinion "Lucky Day" is one of the most perfect songs ever.

@Oisin. Can see what you mean. I never heard of Duster before. Lucky Day has some really interesting chord changes in it. I love discovering new artists. Can't understand how I missed this one.

Hey Tooka you know the famous story about when John Peel first heard "Teenage kicks" when driving and had to pull over and cried cos he'd just heard the perfect pop song, well that's how I felt about this song. The harp is just so uplifting and fits perfectly with the lyrics.

@Oisin. It's weird. After all the avant garde stuff that old Peely played, Teenage Kicks is the last song I would have thought appealed to him. Even had it played at his funeral. I really miss John. He was a true gent and music officianado.

I'm pleased Lucky Day does it for you.

Very unique and very good. He definitely found his own sound. Did anyone else notice that Heart2harp sounds like Duster? Especially in Lucky Day.

Hey Tooka I totally agree with you about Peely...most missed DJ ever.I especially used to like the Home Truths programme he used to do on Radio 4.
The reason I think he liked Teenage kicks so much was because it perfectly summed up what it was like to be a teenager in love. The only other song like that for me was the Buzzcocks "Ever fallen in love with someone".

The Undertones were such a great group too. This is one of my favorites of theirs...still on the same subject! In fact you could call it Irish teenage blues!!

Kudos for starting this thread Sonny! It's always great to discover another artist with this kind of talent. I'd never heard of him, but am glad I have now!

Great to hear his stuff. I too was unaware of his playing and it was only a few months ago that my cousin who was a big fan of his, introduced his work to me.

He asked me to have a go on harp at 'Hard to Resist'. I have to agree there is something different about Duster's style. I found it difficult to copy and then it occured to me that even if I tidied it up, how would I like to play the guitar and drums at the same time!!! - No thanks.

It's on a D harp

Here is Duster playing Worried Mind - one of my favourite songs of his. Man, the energy is explosive!
