Has anyone ever tried playing the part of the soloing guitar on this song? I have a feeling it might take a chromatic, but I could be wrong. All the tabs I've found have either just been the intro or the original Derek and the Dominoes melody.

Love that version of the song, better than the original. Never attempted to play it on a harp though. To me, there are some songs that just aren't meant to be messed with in that way. I'm probably in the minority on this forum with that opinion, and I'm not saying if that works for someone else they shouldn't go for it.

That solo just sounds so sweet on acoustic guitar, I couldn't imagine it being played on harp, even as much as I love the harp.

sorry I couldn't help...good luck with it though.

Edit: one quick thought about it though, if you dug hard enough, I bet you could find the guitar tab for it on-line somewhere, jot that down and then transpose to harp? Might work.

I'm hearing some minors as the melody plays in my head, but I'm betting you can pull it off in 2nd position if the intonation of your bends is good, and maybe a harp swap somewhere in there, too. I personally would do that first. Or, I bet third would sound sweet-either on a 10-holer or chrom.

Works quite well on a C harp in third position. I don't have a G harp with me to try 2nd position. Song is in Dm, I think Todd's onto a good one with a chrom. Stabs on the button might help to emulate the hammer ons and pull offs on the recording. I'm going to try this when I get home. I normally have my harps with me all the time, but I left them today.

Are you actually trying to emulate the guitar solo note for note?

@todd

Yeah, I kinda am. I have a buddy who is a hell of a flat blues picker and loves doing stuff like that. He asked if I could try and solo that song on harp. I haven't really tried yet per se. I keep listening to it though. The recording I have on my mp3 list is Clapton with Mark Knopfler doing the solo. Outstanding.
