will each of you send me some money so I can buy a $1,500 laptop?
I want to continue to make videos to post to YouTube, but I cant do that now, as my current laptop is broken. Although one that costs $200 will do JUST FINE, I want to bilk my handful of fans out of their hard earned money so that I can feel good about myself, and get the latest technology at their expense.
Kyser is talking sarcastically about an announcement I've put on another and complete different electronic communication social network (Facebook) that's is completely different from this forum...
I've obviously made the big mistake to request his friendship on this network, and he fells on me like the plague, saying that it was a bit strange to offer this to MY friends on facebook...
As a consequence I've said that there was not point of being friends anymore...I can see that he has some resentments and wants to share it with this community.
Kyser instead of playing the sissy gossip girl, return to your pencils and drawings, you're so much better at it than drooling on someone's back (true to say that I'm an easy target eh!)
Finally I did NOTHING to you, so shut up and leave me alone, right?
EDIT 1: I want to add as well, that I've been told that even the most stupid question deserve an answer and this answer can be a simple NO...
EDIT 2 : I value the hard work of everybody, and I've never forced anyone to do anything. If I could only work, (which is not the case till my bridging Visa is accepted in Australia) I would have been happy to buy it with the sweat of my work...The only work I can present is my videos, watched over 6 million times, and doing it without asking and forcing ANYONE to buy anything

Okay. One more insult, and I'll throw some of my own. As a matter of fact, Ill give you a tip for free. Dont take your mouth off the harmonica when you make videos. When you sing, you sound like an old man on his deathbed...anyone who tells you different is lying to you. Ok go ahead, this thread will be the one who everyone will bash the crazy french....I know I'm badly crazy and without any sense of the realities, even more I'm a croc...Go ahead
For the record Jason that you all love so much, has asked for shelter, and computer a couple of weeks ago....And no one seemed to react to this, because he's established
Fuck this shit, fuck you all and of course even the ones who likes me wil not l come here to say this....
I came back here and I was wrong, once again, I don't want to put up with people who has strictly NOTHING to present
Fuck that
PS: Nacoran, Adam any moderators banned me or delete my account... I was here to share just to share and to feel a bit of a family...Fuck that
Kyser, my laptop took a fatal plunge a few weeks ago. I am used to HP's so I bought a DV8 series for $400. Great computer with a lot of battery power. Infact, the screen is just as bright after two hours on the battery as it would be if plugged in. Very fast too. The thing is, I can't figure out how to turn the camera on for recording. I know the Mac's have unique features, I'm just a creature of habit.

P.S. I'm curious about editing software too.

Hey Cristal, relax, chill out a little bit. Being passionate seems to be a characteristic of the french, and I for one value it, but don't get your knickers in a knot over this! I and many others on the forum have appreciated your sharing and enjoy your music. Surely by now you know that if you travel over the internet bridges often enough you'll encounter trolls. Quicktime just doesnt cut it. Ive used iMovie, and it's great, but I dont have it anymore. Honestly, it was for more than just recording and uploading harmonica videos. I used it to edit all kinds of video, from my son at his first carnival, to a wedding I attended in June.
I would go so far as to say if anyone had a used one they were wanting to get rid of, or perhaps were upgrading soon, Im in the market.
Granted, this thread is off topic, and perhaps I should solicit elsewhere, but I know a bunch of you here and thought I'd at least put the word out trying to find a deal rather than buy new.
and for what it's worth, there's absolutely nothing wrong with this place. ---------- Kyzer's Travels Kyzer's Artwork "Music in the soul can be heard by the universe." - Lao Tzu
Just for the record I didn't know anything about Christelle's post on facebook. I was merely being sarcastic to Kyzers post. Mind you if anybody wants to buy me a Triumph Thruxton ...., :-)
you can try to do the math and check resources like osx86project and build yourself a hackintosh (like I did). With proper hardware, it will be almost as stable as a normal mac.
@didjcripley:
There are so many people that write here "Adam, delete me from this forum, I am insulted!" at the slightest hint of sarcasm. Or is it just me who doesn't take online blablabla seriously?
I would wager that the reason no one helped Jason (and I wasnt aware of him asking for anything from anyone) is because all of us are conditioned, instinctively, not to have pity for self inflicted wounds, or at the very least, to shy away from lending a hand when there is a highlighted risk that comes with trying to help someone who may only take it for granted...He, like Christelle, has the same opportunity as the rest of us to pick himself up, dust off, and start anew. Some of us have gone down that same road, and some of us knew when to stop before we hit that brick wall.
Sorry youre hurt, Berthon, but I will not lose sleep for either one of you. You chose your path in life and accepted the consequences...willingly. I DO remember seeing a few posts you made and comments on YouTube about asking your 6 million viewers for money to make a CD...that was 2 years ago...
Did you know that MC Hammer, who sold millions of albums in the 90's, got his start selling cassettes that he recorded with one take using primitive audio equipment, out of the back of his beat up Chrysler?

Christelle, no one hates you. If they do, to hell with them, I say.
Kyzer, just as soon as I figure out how to tap into one of those offshore bank accounts on the Isle of Man, I'll hook you up, and also pay off the Camaro I just bought. While I'm at it, I'll wire Kingley some money for that Triumph, or at least a Vespa.

Unlike an Oldsmobile from the early 50s, I'm afraid my Camaro can't hold 'everybody'. Maybe myself, you, and a couple Liliputians wearing clown suits in the back seat.

Kyzer, is it really any different than advertising for selling art? Historically there have been patrons of the arts who give money to help artists out.
If any of us were sitting on a street corner playing, we'd put a cap out and try to busk. If you are a YouTube artist, isn't this pretty much the same thing?
Maybe someone needs to make an app for video busking. You could fill your wallet with PayPal and then just drop a dollar in here and there when you see a video worth it. 90% of the hassle of hitting donate on sites is that you have to go, set up an account, then remember to pay your PayPal. If that was all set up beforehand, and it kept track so you didn't go too crazy... they've even got those new square barcodes that you just take a picture of... you could put one of those next to a busking cap and get digital donations!
Christelle, I hope you reconsider. Take a little while and see if a couple comments by one or two posters are enough to ruin all the positives.
Kyser - I can send you an Ubuntu Disk. I haven't used anything but Gnu/Linux since 2000. It'll turn that $200 laptop into something that runs at a decent speed.

Yeah, there were some expletives thrown about-that didn't go unnoticed. A creed violation, but we will allow for remorse and reconciliation to set in. Some of us harmonica-types are a wee bit sensitive and self-conscious, usually unnecessarily so.
The ability to edit one's own posts and make amends needs to be utilized, methinks.

A harmonica video showdown? as long as we each sing in the video...sure.
maybe round 2 can be an art contest. :-) (just kidding)
nac, its very much different than video busking. shes asking for money from strangers BEFORE delivering a product. Ask Brad Harrison how that works out.
I sell my art and make a monetary transaction before and after the work is done. First one for the mutual commitment, and the other for mutual satisfaction, and I have never swayed from my "two weeks or less" concrete delivery times.
I suppose there are some 'folks' who would send her money, sight unseen, but I cant imagine too many of them, as evidenced by the still yet to be released CD. Which apparently has now changed to a laptop. Does that mean the CD is again on hold until the laptop comes through? And if so, has anyone sent money in to her in the near 3 years shes been asking for it...expecting a CD? If so, theyre probably pissed that she changed her mind to a laptop. Who, of her fans, will benefit from that? They dont want more videos, they want the CD they paid her for. i digress...
There was a topic a while back about projecting sex with the harmonica. do you like apples?
Case in point, Ms. Berthon's most popular video, at nearly 200,000 hits...(three times the hits of the next most watched of her vids) shows her in a most revealing strapless top. Very revealing...more so than ANY of her other 250+ videos. So much that she edited it recently with a darkened panel over her breasts, and commented that she did so because she was tired of the boob comments. BUT, the boobs garnished her 200,000 hits. Think that number swayed her choice on whether to pull it or not? I think so. It clearly wasnt her skill with the harmonica that made that video so popular, and the number of hits alone can be the only reason she would continue to put up with that harassment.
I dont knock anyone for trying to make money with their talent. Maybe it's the difference between american culture and french, i dont know. Ive lived fine off of poverty money for 5 years, because I know how to make it work. It was either that, or hit that damned brick wall.
I am not in the mood to apologize for anything. I feel like I call it as i see it, and I just cant see it any other way. No, I will not send someone money who is just as capable as I am to earn it themselves.
Truth be told, as long as it were an instrumental CD, I would buy one of her albums and support her that way. I have something tangible, and she can do with the money however she pleases.
Im not sure what an ubutnu disk is, and I dont want to get too complicated with this.
and yes, that is sarah palin... sarah palin enough for me.
If im wrong about all this, please tell me, ive never been good at e-hints, and dont want to keep running over the same roadkill...put me in my place if you will.

I'm not taking sides other than to say unless one has walked in another's shoes they really can't understand their situation.
It must be difficult for Christelle settling in a new country particularly as she is not yet allowed to seek work and probably is not entitled to any benefits? I don't know her situation and I certainly don't condone her outburst but then again it takes 2 to tango and she obviously snapped. I would hope that most Aussies would make her feel truly at home.
Personally I don't give a rats arse other than to say that I really like her music & I like her voice. Her voice is different and for many this would be a real plus & she can IMO sing. I'm in my 70s and I do have an old mans voice. And, I can't sing.
We need both Christelle & Kyser on the forum as both are fine players. I am more familiar with Christelles Harmonica playing both on Youtube and her postings here. I think she is a great harmonica player.
But personally I am here to listen & learn. Constructive criticism about playing the harmonica is ok and acceptable. But if you simply don't like something or someone - shut up! I don't know either Christelle or Kyser other than their exposure on the forum. I may or may not even agree with how they run their lives but on here its completely irrelevant.
Cultures are different & need to be respected. Even as Aussies we have huge differences in opinion with the US but we are closely aligned on most things that matter. On this forum the only thing that matters is the harmonica. ---------- HARPOLDIEāS YOUTUBE
agreed Aussie. But I just take serious offense with people whose sole intention is to coax sympathy, emotion and money from people for the frivolous benefit of themselves. What kind of gall does it take to beg for a Porsche 911 when a Ford Taurus will do? It isnt deceit, its something I havent defined yet.
I see it as similar to the television evangelist who buys a 13 million dollar villa in Florida with money they begged their congregation for, when those people believed it all went to feed deprived children overseas. Yes, that happens too...
Perhaps 6 million hits on 250 videos would make me feel different about how "fans" looked at me, and how I treated them, but I would NEVER ask people for money just because I fancied uploading youtube videos, much less reveal that I intended to use that money to buy an item that even my fans could not afford. It's the sure fire way to get anti-famous. Give someone something for their money, not promises of things yet to exist.
Christelle settled in a new country on her own accord, and surely she must have known the struggles that might have come with not being able to work there for so long. This shows lack of preparation or forethought. Perhaps it was a move made on a whim. Now shes asking fans to pay for her miscalculation. Not me. No sir.
Its a moral issue. I have tried very hard to be concise and to the point. I dont like it, and I have as much right to say that as she does to beg for that money. Just perhaps not here.
I will apologize to the moderators and to Adam. This will be the last I speak of it.
Christelle, if youre reading this: I want you to know that I am very appreciative of you showcasing your talent on youtube for as long as you have. I have not walked in your shoes, and have not presumed to do so. I just dont agree with your motives or your intentions and, from time to time, I am the bull headed asshole you make me out to be. take me as I am. Continue on if you will, most certainly here on the forum where you are widely accepted. This issue will not come up with me again.
And im STILL in the market for a cheap laptop.... believe it or not.
Kyser, I've got to disagree. Putting videos up on YouTube and asking for money is, in every way I can think of, exactly the same thing as busking. No, Christelle hasn't gotten her CD out, but there is a ton of her playing on YouTube. If a busker had a sign saying please donate, I want to buy recording gear would you really fault them if they bought lunch first? I've never seen her say 'give me money and I'll send you a CD'. She's asked for donations while playing for people. That seems to be the essence of busking.
Maybe it's just a matter of marketing. Christelle does say CD's specifically, not music, but again, is it a physical CD or music you are after? She puts lots of music up. That might even be a better plug for a donation. Here is my stuff. I'm trying to make a living at it. If you like it, please feel free to donate. But, that's just really marketing.
I guess I don't really think of a CD as something tangible anymore. The last 4-5 albums I've bought have all been downloads. It bothered me at first but I've started to realize that it's the music, not the shiny disk that I'm after.
As for the rest of it, what was the point? I can't understand why you started this thread. You've talked about boobs and laptops. I usually enjoy your posts, and I like your art, but this just seemed like something out of left field. You got in an argument with her somewhere else? And it spilled over here.
It looks like both of you went outside the creed, but you've both been long term members who are valuable to the forum. Please try to think of the forum as neutral ground when it comes to fights that start somewhere else.
And Christelle, if you are still reading this, and you decide to stick around (I hope you do) please don't blow up at the whole forum in a dispute with one member.
So here is my story time of the day-
Some time ago I was driving down a local freeway. It was a spot where two major highways merged. There was a car in the lane to the right of me. I was moving faster than him and I needed to get over a lane so I sped up a little to try to get in front of him. He decided he didn't like that so he sped up. "Really?" I thought. I looked around. Cars were coming over from his lane behind me. I didn't want to slow down suddenly in front of them.
I sped up a little more and did manage to get in in front of him (his car was a POS too). And then I had to slow down to get into the next lane over. To say this made him a little angry would be an understatement. He honked and as he came up along side me I could see him swearing at me.
I did what we've all been conditioned to do. I raised my left hand and extended the middle finger. To say that this made him a little more angry would be an understatement. The nut job tried to run me off the road. He nearly succeeded. My left tires ended up crossing the rumble strip, those little ridges they put on the side of the highway to wake up sleepy drifting drivers. Remember, this is America, so that meant my right side tires were WAY over rumble strip.
I managed to swerve onto my exit. He kept going on his merry way.
I was about a block from where I was headed and I'd caught his plate numbers. I called the police.
The problem was, as I honestly told my story,... well, I'd given him the finger. That doesn't warrant attempted vehicular homicide but it was enough of an excuse for the cops to not get involved.
On a side note, completely unrelated to any moral my previous story might have had, as I thought more about the man who tried to run me off the road I started to wonder if maybe I did recognize his face.
A couple years earlier I'd had a temp job at the state. There was a co-worker, a slacker who was useless enough at what he did that the bosses let him spend most of the first half of the day taking collections and lunch orders for everyone else.
His wife worked in the next department over and she controlled the family purse-strings. (And seemingly with good cause.) They used to have lunchtime rows over whether they had enough money for him to order lunch.
He used to use this little cardboard wheel to calculate the proper tip, only it seemed to always give a very generous tip. People always used to complain.
One day he had a doctors appointment or something and he had to be out of the office right when the lunch was supposed to arrive. He trusted me with a sealed envelope to give to the delivery guy.
Everyone else had had enough. They thought he might be skimming. Still, I'd promised I'd give it to the delivery guy. I compromised and when the delivery guy arrived I gave him the envelope, but I asked him to open it and count it. It was short. Not just short like he'd skimmed the tip, or used the tip to pay for his own meal, actually short short. Not enough money to cover the meal.
The boss allowed this guy to spend the better part of the first half of the day taking people's lunch orders instead of doing work. We all knew that on large orders some of the restaurants would give kickbacks in the form of a free sandwich or two. We assumed he was probably eating that. We worried he was skimming the tip. He was. But he was skimming so heavily it wasn't just the tip he was taking.
I gave the delivery guy a ten to make up the difference and cover the tip. I went back upstairs to report my findings.
The next day he passed around the menu again. No one ordered. Half and hour later the boss asked me to pass around a menu, from the same restaurant. I did. When the guy saw it he flipped out. The boss took him aside and calmed him down. I don't know if he told him the whole story, how I'd been asked by one of the sub-bosses to check the envelope. Maybe he left that out. I was a temp close to ending my assignment and I'd had enough missed time with health problems I wasn't going to be brought back.
But anyway, on that day, after I'd talked to the cops on the phone and they'd suggested I didn't pursue the matter, after that, well, I kept picturing the guy who'd tried to run me off the road. Was that him? I think that was the kind of car he drove. It looked like him. He was the kind of guy with a temper like that. Did he recognize me. If he'd been looking he might have even recognized me before he sped up. He got off at the exit where the office complex we'd worked at was, but it was a big state office complex, so maybe it was just my imagination.
Anyway, I guess that story has it's own sort of moral, entirely unrelated. Never mess with the crazy guy at work.
