Made myself a high Bb last night by tuning an old high A Seydel up to a Bb. Took some time, and though I'm not sure how usable it will be, it sure is fun to play.

You never know, it may come in handy one of these days for playing octaves or something. I use a high Ab pretty often on recording sessions, so my next project will be to tune my high G Special 20 up to an Ab.

Seydel makes the Soloist Pro (similar to Hohner's SBS) in a high C - I played it at SPAH, as did Alex Paclin, and we thought it was funny to play such a high harp.

"I use a high Ab pretty often on recording sessions"

I think that proves you are of a different cut than most of us. :)

LOL Jim! Not really... it's just that the stuff I play on is often for vocal groups who love to modulate. Just doesn't sound right to my ears when I'm playing in D on a high G harp, and then the key changes to Eb and I grab a regular Ab.

I do like the high harps though... it's crazy I know!

@Stevelegh - I will try and make a video for sure, if nothing else, for a laugh.

Todd, I dont think I would ever laugh at one of your vids. I usually do that open-mouthed speechless thing. Would love to hear you play that high Bb.

Thanks Stevelegh. My playing has changed some since my last Youtube videos from 2008 (gosh, it's been a long time...) but I hope to post some more videos very soon.

High F? It would probably be easier to start with a dog whistle and tune it down!

I think if I played something that high I'd put plastic covers on it to make it a little more quiet. I do have some fun with my regular F# sometimes but I already get complaints when I break it out.

The thing I'd really love to engineer though is a LLF Hohner Puck, just to freak people out.

Todd
hardly understand, what cool about such a high harps, but if it works for you it's nice. I never needed High G live (although I have one), and even I rare played regular F#, mostly low F#. But regular F is nice for blues or funk in C.

@chromaticblues - LOL! I know! Hmmmm... I wonder if I could get that high C from Seydel and make myself a high Db..... ;)

@Boris - Actually, I rarely use anything higher than high Ab. I like the high G and high Ab harps because they cut through a lot better, though sometimes I do like an Ab harp - I've never liked a regular G harp though. And when I use a high Ab, it's usually when I am accompanying a singer or group. For a solo, I would probably use a regular Ab. It's also really cool to record a lick, for example, on a regular G harp, and then go back and play along on a high G and record the same exact lick - sounds pretty cool. Terry McMillan did this a lot on recording sessions and I always liked that sound. It has a different sound than you would get from using an octave pedal.

I guess there are extremes on both ends... While a high Bb is not that useful, I also don't understand the double low F. I had one, and it just seems too low. Some of the notes on the LLF were the same as the notes on my bass harmonica.

But, I guess it's fun to have the extremes in either direction. The high Bb is good for playing along with Smurf and Chipmunk records. ;)

of all the high and low pitch harps,I have a delta frost in high G which does have better volume than a regular G-I have always had more trouble bending 1 or 2 draw on a regular G but its just as hard on a high G
