Annie is running a three week class starting this Saturday in Newton. I got an early b-day present from my wife and kids and will be attending and I was wondering if anyone else was planning to be there?

She is offering 3 different levels (beginner, adv. beginner and intermediate). Based on her particular criteria I think I'm between adv. beginner and intermediate but after talking to Annie I'm going to the intermediate class. It will be good to push out of my comfort level.

Anyway, if you're planning on being there post here.

Too far for me to commute with my car. I'm contemplating catching the Flecktones in Albany in November though.

@Barry: I'll definitely report back on the class. I'm really looking forward to it as it will be my first harmonica class...In the words of the immortal words of William Hung of American Idol "fame"...

jaymcc28, do you have a link to any info on the classes? I don't see anything on Annie and Paul's website.

Hey Jay, you'll have a great experience with Annie. The few lessons I took with her were awesome, I wish I had time to go back. Anyway I saw this thread and thought I'd post an attempt of her Orange Dude Blues duet with John Sebastian. So here it is, 1 take clams and all. I just ordered a thunderbird in low D & want to use it with this.

Let us know how it goes!

Hi All: I've been off-line for several days so just getting back.
@LSB: I received an email from Annie announcing the class. If you're still interested let me know your PM and I'll forward it along to you.

@HH: Yes, Annie is awesome and just a sweetheart, as is Paul. Paul is going to be teaching a new "Country Blues" topic at Berkely this year. Nice take on Orange Dude, btw.

@Bob...I'll drop your name and say hello for you this weekend for sure.

As for the first class: As mentioned above I'm sitting in on an "intermediate" class. There are 2 other guys in the class so there's plenty of 1-on-1 instruction. I'm definitely the member with the least experience. Both of the other guys play in bands and have been playing for many more years than me. However, I'm doing my best to keep up and I think it's good for me to have to "stretch".

We did a lot of work on improvising where we would play some sort of bassline and take turns taking anywhere from 2 - 8 bars each and just play. This is the most difficult thing for me to do. I freeze up and have no idea what to play, but Annie is very supportive and full of information and ideas. We also worked on the blues scale and discussed how to get riffs from it.

Oh, yeah, the other thing that Annie is making me work on is tongue blocking. Since I only tongue block on octaves she really wants me to give it a try so I've decided to buy in on it and give it my best shot.

The class was supposed to be 1:15 but we easily went a half hour over. I'm looking forward to this coming Saturday's class.
