Thanks for posting OMD. I am a longtime fan. They put on a Rock Festival in NW Arkansas. You had to pack about 1 1/2 mi. into the hills from the parking area. First time to see Big Mama Thornton. Also saw the Earl Scruggs Revue Band. They just cut timber down in a holler and laid the logs around for a natural ampitheater. The stage was at the bottom of the holler, built above the spring fed creek. There were a lot of other bands, just can't remember! Ozark Mountain Daredevils were also a Kansas City favorite. You could go down to the Cowtown Ballroom and see them. Miss them and their sound!
Our band gets this request a lot. They see a harp player in the mix and five people come up: "You boys know any Ozark Mountain Daredevils?" It annoyed me at first, but now that I actually got my band leader to learn the song and we do it fairly regularly, I like the song a lot. ---------- Hawkeye Kane
@JimInMO Thanks! That was a trip back in time. I had forgot all the bands I saw perform there. Too bad it was gone so quick. Can't have nothin' nice! Do you live around KC?
Orphan.. I lived in KC from 68 until I retired in 06. Live in Salisbury now, north central MO. Worked for the Lyric Opera for 30+ years and managed the theater for part of that time. The Daredevils performed there a few times. Last time was late 70's, early 80's. They opened for Asleep At The Wheel as I recall.
Did you see where Stan Plesser died last week? KC's Bill Graham.
@JimInMO Yes, I read that in the paper. Don't think anyone could do for the KC music scene what he did. The Lyric is a great venue. You worked there during some of KC's best time for music. Thanks for being a part of bringing great talent @ affordable prices. It was a win/win time for the artists and the audience!
A friend of mine, David Wilson, is in the group Beyond Reach, which includes two founding members of OMD, Randle Chowning and Larry Lee. Randle plays harp on some of their songs.
Thank you for posting the link to the Beyond Reach site. The song "My Old Band" tied up a few loose ends for me. Been quite a ride... this thing called life. What would we do without the music? You are fortunate to have such good friends. With fall coming on, the leaves changing, maybe I can get down to the Ozarks for a few days. Some fresh sorgum still warm in the jar is startin' to call. Now pass them biscuits! Thanks again OzarkRich.
