Haha, that was quite amusing.

Now let me get to this captcha...

You know the captchas on this site make me crazy. Some sites use only numbers, or real words - to make it a little easier. Here I would say one out of 3 of my posts I have to re-enter the damn thing because it was SO GOD DAMNED AMBIGUOUS. I keep meaning to screen shot them along with my answer so I can post the stupid refusals. But tat would be a lot of work to make a point that won't make a difference. I DO enjoy that fact that the site has remained fairly SPAM-free.

@groyster1: I've had the same problem. In fact it was so bad one night, I had someone sit by me and watch me enter the codes!

I once joined a guitar forum (God only knows why - I'm no guitarist) where to complete registration you had to answer a question - something about the number of pickups on a Les Paul or something. I had to Google the answer.

Captcha started working on first try for me when I correctly entered the capitals and lower case, which I was not doing before.

I've always used upper and lower case letters. The captcha on this forum seems to be a bit temperamental. At times I know I entered it right, especially when I have to enter it more then once because it keeps giving me an error notice, and it still comes up wrong. I mean on some letters-like G for example there is no mistaking upper and lower case. Same goes for numbers.

Not only is the captcha system on this site impossibly, infuriatingly difficult to read; also, it doesn't always match what you've typed with the image.

Just after the UK riots, I spent about 20 mins writing a post, and then spent at least as long again trying to get the captcha right. I had so many attempts than I'm 99.99999% sure that at least a few of my attempts were right. The system itself simply doesn't always work. In the end, I had to give up and come back later, whereupon it worked the first time.

While I'm griping, I would like to add that I wish we could have the 'next' and 'page' links at the bottom of the page as well as at the top. For those of you familiar with HTML/PHP, you'll know that it involves little more work than copying and pasting the relevant line of code further down in the template. That is the whole point of database driven sites such as this: write once, use many times.

I suppose I should add that IT companies will charge obscene amounts of money to carry out this simple task. I suppose that's why it ain't happened yet, despite previous moans by various board members in the past.

Some captcha's have a re-load option to get a new one if you can't read the first one. You can also just re-load the page before starting your message until you get a readable one.
If you are using Firefox you can load the "Back to Top" extention which gives you one click top/bottom of page arrows in the bottom add-on bar. Works great.

A lot of times the issue is, 'is that upper case or lower case' And as my finger hovers nervously above the enter key, these words go through my mind.

Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

EDIT Phew,I got that one right.

The captcha function went haywire one evening because this website's host, Macwebsitebuilder.com, did some site maintenance. They warned on the website that some outtages might occur during that period--although nobody here would have seen those warnings. I didn't see them because I was out of town. Retroactive apologies for having a site host who occasionally does site maintenance.

I realize that some here consider the captcha thing a huge issue. I don't. My heart goes out, instead, to people in war and civil-war zones (Syria is particularly bad; teenagers don't deserve to be brutally tortured), flood zones, tornado aftermaths. I hope the majority of you share my sense of proportion. This is a forum for chatting about blues harmonica and related issues. Sometimes things interrupt the chat. No big deal. The chat always eventually resumes. During interruptions, take a moment and...oh, I don't know. Practice?

Quite right. I'll never, ever complain about anything so trivial ever again. My sense of proportionality will render any griping about anything less than torture, sensory deprivation or the ravages of war utterly pointless and futile. Not much point in moaning about captchas, dodgy reeds, dodgy combs, what gear to use, or anything else much. Let's close down the forum. No point in talking in moaning about anything.

Please don't insult our intelligence. I, for one, would prefer not to be attributed with the wit of a dullard who has no idea of what's going on in the World just because I took five minute to contribute to a relatively light-hearted discussion about those irritating and poorly written captchas.

And, by the way, the word is 'problem', not 'issue'. Issue is one of those extremely annoying euphemisms that was slipped into the language by American shrinks back in the 80s so that people could avoid calling a problem a problem. It's very closing aligned with the whole PC BS thing, and I hate it. The word is problem; it still exists, it's in the dictionary and can still be used without harming or upsetting anyone in any way.
