i know the harp player in parkers band. a pennsylvanian by the name of dane paul russel.
observe how sparse his playing is on this number. he aquits himself very well.
when you've many instruments on stage you best pick your spots dead on and get out quickly.
as an aside, dane told me the only way carlos santana was going to play the 2004 montreaux fest was if bobby parker was on the bill opened for him. it seems carlos used to go see parker years ago in CA. and he was an strong influence. notice how loud parker plays? notice how loud santana plays? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5k445acfrw&feature=player_detailpage#t=228s ---------

Yeah, nice work. I sure do recognize the situation. First, Bobbys show. It's a funk thing so there should be a lot of space. Add sax and there's even less. Add b3 and there's near zip. I LOVE playing with the Hammond but it can be tricky covering the same neighborhood. In situations like this I find myself hanging out with the bass line, or the drummers groove.
he's still useing that little kick drum mic? that's funny! he came by one day and saw my AKG kick drum mic and said i should try it for harp. he was useing a souped up fender super to keep up w/ the volume of parkers group. an amp tech, former clair brother, by the name of rick coberly voiced it for him. ----------
