HI , I need to get a low F harp.. The Manji retails around 50 , the 1847 at 90 and the Thunderbird at 125.. apart from the coverplates is the Thunderbird worth the extra $$?
which one would you pick?

Get yourself a Steve Baker special for 50 dollars and chop off the first 3 holes. Sell that as a fun item to one of your peers for say 10 dollars e voila: there's your low F marine band for 40 dollars. With screws in stead of nails.
On the serious side of matters: aren't they selling the Sp20 in low F no more?

Chop the first three holes off an SBS in F and you'll have a regular F harp, not a Low F.

Haha, oh yeah, that's right. mm.
Ehms, Gnarly: I was told so. And saw some pictures that would suggest they have the same screws as Sp20's. Aren't they??

I've a Low F Marine Band Deluxe. It's quite a good harp. I got it for $25 from Amazon. Go over and have look there as sometimes they sell odd key or low-tuned Hohners at really good prices (probably because they don't sell as many, and from time to tme they want to clear their inventory.). ----------

I love my Low F's. I have a Marine Band & a Lee Oskar. My MB was starting to swell in the comb so I purchased the LO. I really like them both but prefer to play the LO. In Oz the price of both is ca the same at $50.

Haven't tried a low-F manji or thunderbird, but I have a low-f Sp20 that is awesome. And a lot cheaper.

Seydel 1847 in LF or LG is perfect for me. It's loud, durable and amazing quality instrument. My LF 1847 with aluminium comb has 1,5 year and works great. I think that everyone should try a few models and find HIS favorite model :o) All the best

Bart Leczycki Do you mean regular G? As far as I know 1847 don't available in keys lower than Low C. I also like my 1847 LF customized by Jim and LD customized by me. ---------- Excuse my bad English. Click on my photo or my username for my music.

I like my Seydel 1847 low harps. The coverplate is pressed out to leave more room for the 1 reed - the SP20's don't do this. The Thunderbird uses a different scheme but accomplishes the same result, don't know about the Manji's. But for harps like Low D and below, having the 1 blow slap on the cover plate is a real issue unless the cover plate is raised somehow. ---------- /Greg
