I read the BYBO thread and realized there's no way in HELL I'd enter, although I do look forward to watching the entrants and see what people are putting down. But it did get me thinking about some way for new to newish players could have a place where they didn't feel so intimidated to either showcase there skills, new technique or post a method they used to learn a new technique.

I understand that users of MBH can start their own thread. But, I thought maybe we'd get more people posting videos and/or audio clips if there was a pre-existing thread.

Maybe I'm wrong and I should just get over my "stage fright" and just post and ask pointed questions. But for me I think new players may be to reserved to do so.

This would also be another way to keep peoples minds on playing and not so much on outside drama.

So whats your thoughts and opinions on this?

There are always people of different levels in the BYBOs. It's a good way to get over stage fright and get some useful feedback. But you can do that without the pressure of a contest if you want. :)

Just post stuff though. It doesn't matter where you do it, in the BYOB thread or another one. It's a good way to practice skills like recording that you might not work on otherwise. You'll get more feedback in the BYOB thread though.

Just as Nate said, there are always people of all levels entering. Beginners place Too! That's a Fact.

If you don't want to enter right now, feel free to post your music in a thread! We are all USUALLY pretty nice guys and gals. ;)

Look up "Harpfriends" on YouTube. You will see a lot of us MBH'ists showing our stuff.

7 o 3 apparently you haven't seen any of my videos!

Do you think I feel good posting the videos I have posted of myself playing. I have only just begun to learn and am as raw as can be but I figure that if I just man up and post I will possibly get feedback that is helpful. It also opens my eyes to things i thought were good until I actually watch myself. It has been helpful. It also makes me practice more because I suck at working the recording stuff and have no real equipment, so I have to do retakes. Then there's correcting licks etc.

Just do it.

Go back and find mine....that will make you feel better....lol

7o3. Yeah! I only consider myself as an advanced beginner and I'll be giving it a go. Soemtimes a beginner can be having a good day and shine where a more experienced player may not. There's no shame in trying. Whatsmore it would give you a chance to sort your recording kit/camera etc out. Playing in front of a camera is scarey even though there's no-one else in the room. It's a good opportunity to deal with all that now and get it out of the way ready for your next big gig.

I say join in. You'll be really pleased you did. Trust me.

So, general consensus is.......... I need to man up. Guess I'll start working on a song to throw up here or there.

@Tommy- I enjoyed your videos!

hahahah....you're good 7o3!!! Complimenting me just before you post a video....now I owe you a compliment right? lol.

Just kidding...go for it. I think it helps us all. It helps me to see what others do so I might improve; if I see something they are doing that I may have missed in my playing. Especially from players closer to my level, rather then the very advanced.

What I like most about the BYBO is getting to know forum members more than their posts. Beginner or Advanced, most of us have something worthy of sharing. Last time it was not cut throat, but you will get some criticism... constructive or not. But you know what they say about opinions...

The criticism is golden. It's the nit-picky stuff that helps you up your game. You are most likely going to be outplayed, but you might not get out-mojoed. We all have things to learn and this helps us learn more by seeing everyone else's mistakes as well as our own. Really paying attention while you make your vote or critique, then comparing it to someone more accomplished, helps you to develop bigger ears and develop a better gauge for your own playing.
