what's the best tuna fish sandwich you've ever...oops! Sorry, that was a different thread I was going to start. :)
But really though, I recently bought a Manji in the key of G. Nice response up at the top end but I'm not overly enthusiastic with the bottom end. Don't know if its just the lower key but seems sluggish and breathy. I opened her up to check the gapping. Nice even gapping, pretty tight, a reeds thickness off the plate (the thin part of the reed, all the G reeds have a block of material at the tip. Must be a Suzuki thing. Only ever seen those on Hohner long low reeds.) What sort of basic reed setup/tweaking are people doing on Manjis? Open them up a bit? Scoop the tip?
Just curious.

Open-face provolone tuna melt on rye with some oregano and minced onions in the tuna? (Monterey Chicken seasoning too. Tuna is the chicken of the sea.)
Sorry, I get distracted easily.

Sorry what? Oh. Right....
Way to go Nate. Now I'm gonna get nothing but sandwich recipes and tuna fish jokes.
And my poor little manji will be left sitting there with it's covers off flipping around like a fish out of water, blowing bubbles, circling around and around, slowing going rotten to the albacore.

seems a general issue with manji's, not sure why and have not figured out how to fix it, might be something with the longer reeds slowing things down on the low end..maybe some of the real customizers will chip in on this?

you might want to check with chromaticblues on this. i got a manji in D from him that plays well. i know he said he liked manjis but the only problem he had with them was the 2 & 3. he might have figured out something because mine plays perfect. the lowest key i have is an A and I dont have any problems with the low end but i might just be use to it by now.

I have 6 Manjis and the high end reeds are the problematic ones for me, but maybe it's from under use.

@atty1chgo The high reeds on Manji's really are a thing of beauty! Check to see if they are curled up a little. Banana looking almost. If so try to straighten them out and then set the gap about the thickness of the reed tip. I find the 7 thru 10 holes very easy to adjust. I've said it bafore and I'll say it again if the whole harp played as well as 7 thru 10. I wouldn't even think twice about playing any other harp again. The draw three is tricky to get right. You have to have both the draw and blow reed set absolutly perfect for it to be playable. Rift is onto something also about being use to it. I think if you play just one type of harp after awhile you learn to adopt the techniques required to play that harp. I know it sounds like Bullshit, but it really is true. You have to dedicate to one harp and master all the nuances of that harp. All harps have an inhearant fault. You just have to spend some time with it or play something else that doesn't bother you. My wife's Tuna recipe has diced dill pickles in it. If I knew the whole recipe I'd post it because it is good!

I find high end reeds on Manji to be excellent. In fact I think the problem (if that is a problem) is that it is too good, too responsive, too comfortable to play with and you have calm down playing it. Low ends reeds are very very reponsive and you have to take care of them, being very smooth. I found that putting bees wax onto the welded rivet helps a lot, is a good way to control the bottom reeds.

I like chopped red onion, mayo, salt and pepper - that's it. No sense in spoiling a good thing. I don't mind the pickle relish or a little hot sauce either, but mostly like it simple. I prefer it on something soft like a croissant as well...
I don't own a Manji - would like to - and Nate made me do it...
