Please understand that every time you apply, it comes through. Every single time. Also, we moderators and Adam aren't sitting by a computer 24/7-we have lives, too, and voluntarily moderate the site in our spare time. Therefore, don't fret if you don't hear anything back on your application for a day or so, and PLEASE don't re-apply-that only gives us more to sort thru.
We are also forced to make judgement calls on who to let in or not, and as hard as we try to be vigilant, spammers sneak in. NOBODY appreciates spammers(I wish spammers understood this). So, if you don't provide a REAL first and last name, you're not getting in. If your email address can be linked to a known spammer, you're not getting in.
Thanks for your understanding and patience.

The ones that drive me nuts are the spammers who apply with the same email and 10 names 3 days in a row, all of them saying Cheap Shoes is their real name.
What is really frustrating is sometimes you ax someone who isn't a spammer. We got a letter the other day from someone who's email came up as a kind of shoe, or as a perfectly good nick name for someone. I haven't seen him reapply. :(

I think, with 19 posts, moderator might be stretching it a little?

I do a little linking and search engine optimising for my own sites (non related, hence I've never even put them in a sig), but I'd love to know how much 'Google Juice' this forum has. I bet it's huge.
Many sites have a 50 post rule with no links or anchor text until you hit that mark. Might be a consideration for the new site.

Yes. I know the previous name, and the previous posts. The name change is enough to draw suspicion. I don't think they were asking for new moderators, just that they are not going to spend every waking moment admitting new members.

Todd,
I don't know how the application process is set up but, if you've not already done so, why don't you automate a 'donotreply@domain' reply explaining what you said in your OP? It will never completely stop multiple applications, but it should drastically cut the number of them. If you've already done this then just ignore me. ---------- YouTube SlimHarpMick

Mick, I don't think we have that sort of control on this platform. As with the Captcha situation, I am afraid it is what it is, unless/untill we change to another format. That is a good suggestion, though. Perhaps Adam knows more about such options within this current platform. ---------- Todd L. Greene

Todd,
I just had a quick look at the host's website, and it says that their package includes autoresponders. The relevant part is about halfway down the page.
http://www.macwebsitebuilder.com/host/page/911.htm
I've not studied their site in detail so it may be the case the the feature isn't supported on this site, but I think that is unlikely. ---------- YouTube SlimHarpMick

Well, in the case of approving/denying membership requests, there is a default message that goes out, but the process of approving/denying is still a manual process. ---------- Todd L. Greene

We do have a field we can type comments in, and I think we can customize what the field says by default, but only once... that is to say, you have to reset the information each time- there doesn't seem to be a way to create a pull-down menu of choices or anything. I usually type (Duplicate Application) if I'm deleting applications 2,3,4 etc.
If there is a name I'm not sure on, we had someone the other day for instance whose email addy used the same words in the same order as brand of shoes, but well, I just wasn't sure, so I typed in something like- We get a lot of spam. Sometimes in order to keep it off the forum we are a little too twitchy with the rejection. If you are a real person, not some spammer, please email us and we'll walk the application through. I think we've gotten 1 email back from all the ones I did.

If the default message isn't stopping duplicate requests then you have my sympathy. No doubt, Adam will have worded it so as to discourage duplicates, and that is all he can do. I wouldn't be at all surprised if a lot of people don't even read the message. I must admit that I usually only bother to read do-not-replys unless I've parted with some cash. Still, people applying numerous times must be driving you fellas nuts. ---------- YouTube SlimHarpMick
