I have a turbolid which I have put on a bluesband in C. I was thinking of getting an SP20 in low D to go in it instead and then thought that to save some ££ I could get a set of sp20 reed plates. Would low D sp20 reed plates fit on a C bluesband comb without any modification? or would it not be wise.
I emailed Peter at harmonicas direct but he hasn't replied yet, he's normally pretty quick.

I'm pretty sure this would work. Piedmonts, Bluesbands, Sp20s, Pocket Pals, (and I think the rest of Hohner's plastic combs as well- except maybe some of the 'novelty' models) all use the same comb and I've swapped their regular covers back and forth without a problem. I'm not sure about the Low D part.
I'd say it's worth a shot. If it doesn't work because the reeds are too long or for the comb or whatever, you can always get a custom comb and still be within a few bucks of buying the full Sp20. Actually, for someone going the Turbolid route, you may have discovered a cheap work around. Is the price of a BluesBand and a set of Sp20 reed plates less than the price of a Sp20?

I believe Nacoran (Nate) is correct, all the diatonic Hohner models with plastic combs, EXCEPT the MS series (Big River, etc.) and "novelty" types, use the same comb as the Sp20. I'm not absolutely certain about the "Low" key plates either, but I'm thinking they should be interchangeable.
And yes, it has been the cheap work around, at least for me anyway. A 7 key set of Bluesbands is $35, so $5 a comb, and the Sp20 reed plates are $23 a set at Rockin' Ron's. Sp20s there are $33 otherwise. I practiced gapping and tuning on the Bluesbands, which now play as easily as my Sp20s (though without the longevity I'm sure), and fit them with Turbolids and Sp20 plates as my budget will allow.

Probably best to contact Turbodog...
I have a Low D marine band in a Turbolid, but it needs some little shims that they supplied that stick onto the bottom of the wood comb.

I received the reed plates and they fit. there is just one 'gotcha'. the blues band screws are smaller diameter than the sp20 holes. peter is going to very kindly send me some sp20 screws. He tells me that although blues bands use all 9 screw holes, SP20s only use 5. which 5 should I use? 2 at each end and 1 in the middle? ---------- "Come on Brackett let's get changed"

Huh! That's weird... I have 2 actual Sp20s (not Bluesband/ Sp20 plates converts) that I put in Turbolids, and they both have 9 screws in them, not 5. They came that way, I didn't add any extra screws. Haven't gotten a new Sp20 for a while though, so...
