Hi mike I just opened my Marine Band classic and played with the 1,2 and 3 draw it's so much better and easier to play now especially the 3 draw. I'm just starting to mess with reedwork and have opened this harp a few times but couldn't get it just right. A big thanks to you and all the others for showing us how to get our harps to play better.

Okay, so in the one about checking and changing profiles you talk about balancing the need for straight reeds against the need for there to be a little gap at the end. That got me thinking, has anyone tried putting the reed perfectly straight but then taking a little material off the reed plate to create the gap, basically creating a little sunken area that slopes down towards the tip of the reed? It might screw with other things like embossing and you would have to figure out exactly how wide to make the groove but it would let you keep the reed perfectly straight (and maybe give you some more control over a whole new set of variables.
Nice videos. :)

i think that is what jim does in his videos by tip scooping the corners. another thing i have seen, but do not know how to do, is a small conical sunken area near the center of the tip of the end of the reed
