I'm having trouble with my 3 draw bent.

I know that on for example a C harp I should be able to get B, Bflat, A, and Aflat but just lately I've noticed that I only use 1 bend and I tend to think it's the Aflat.

Can anyone recommend a little ditty I can play which brings all the bends in to play.

I seem to recall Mary had a little lamb was useful for things like this but I forget what bends that one used.

MAny thanks.

The only piece I can think of is a Latin American piece called tic-o-tic-o-tac or something like that (in 3rd poosition) - probably out of a Peter Sellers/Sophia Loren comedy!

Working on it myself. JR has a great vid on this.

He also has a vid on playing a boogie using only 3-hole draw.

I've heard about the Mary Had a Little Lamb thing but have yet to be able to find an example done on the low end of the harp.

Andrew I think in your video there's a couple extra bends.

The notes that "live" in 3 hole inhale are the last 4 notes of that ol' drinking song "How Dry I Am".

tooka, that video I put on my channel of The Godfather theme a while back is a workout on the 3 draw and all its bends. At one point it uses all three bends in the same bar. There's a link in the comments box to download a tab in PDF form if you want it.

As for the mechanics of actually playing them, the way that I do it - I think - is by concentrating the narrowed air stream near the front of my mouth, as opposed to nearer the throat. If you practice going from unbent, then all the way down and back up again, but smoothly, as if the notes were being played by moving the slide on a trombone, then you'll know if you've got control over it.

By the way, I'm not really sure that my description here is textbook, it's just how it feels in my mouth, and it works; I really can control the little bugger.

It's not the traditional Mary Had a Little Lamb, but Salty Holmes version is fun to practice bends on.
