I think Little Walter's vocals are underestimated by quite a few folks. Today, John Nemeth's vocal range is hard to top.

No, that's not fair. Howlin' Wolf is in a class by himself.

Howlin' Wolf - no contest.
hvyj, you're right - he's in his own class, but I'd say that makes him the best!

Hi MBHers

If we're talking about Harp Players then I think either Paul DeLay or Big Mamma Thornton.

There is not one best. Right now, I'm digging Otis Rush. A couple of days ago, it was Doctor Clayton.

Best voice...? Little Walter's gotta be up there. He coulda done stuff like Belafonte & Nat King Cole were doin'.

Best voice for singin' in loud clubs? Howlin' Wolf. That guy's voice could cut through a stage crammed with Marshall stacks.

Pretty hard to go past The Wolf here.

Not too sure who'd be second place. John Nemeth is a superb singer, though to my ears a better soul singer - for some reason when he sings blues he sometimes puts on an affected-sounding voice

While he was no virtuoso on harp, James Hunter (as Howlin' Wilf) certainly had the voice

Tad Robinson is a great vocalist and a very good if all-too-occasional harp player.

And this is an amazing performance from Curtis Salgado
