Has anyone tried Hohner's 7 Harp Gig Case? I can't seem to find any reviews on it. I'm particularly interested to know how well Golden Melodies will fit in this case, if at all. SPAH's around the corner and I'm tired of lugging around my huge heavy case every year. Gotta go with something more compact.
Here's the case I'm talking about:

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Todd,
I've got a few of those cases. They're fantastic and the perfect size to carry a few harps with ya. I use marine bands and they're snug in the slots. Unfortunately I don't down a golden melody to try. But if a GM is much larger than a MB then it may not fit. But the case is made very well.
Not much help I'm sure.

I should probably add: I have a few MS blues harps that fit but they're almost too large to fit into the slots when the case is new. The slots also seem to have some stretch to the leather and with time they have loosened up.
Just wanted to make sure my post was confusing enough.

I enjoy mine very much. I use marine bands too, so I have not tried the GM. A delta frost fits just fine.

Golden Melodies do fit. They're pretty tight, but they fit.

Todd,
If you are looking for a light, relatively compact, practical, durable and intelligently designed harp case, check out the Seydel hard case:

GREAT case for a gigging musician who prefers to travel light, and GMs fit perfectly.

Thanks to everyone for your help! I'll have to give the Hohner case a try. That Seydel case looks nice too.

Hey Todd,
I'd go with the Hohner case. Bear in mind that leather will stretch.
Just an aside, as a Hohner endorser, would you get in any trouble if you used a Seydel case, or any other for that matter? I'd imagine the big issue would be any other manufacturer's logo being on display, but I'm interested to know.
Regards
Steve

Steve,
I doubt another manufacturer's case would be a problem. But I guess you could always put a Hohner sticker over the logo. :)

Todd, I've got one of those cases. GM's fit very well. Tight at first. But, I treated it like a tight leather gun holster: soaked in warm water for about 3 or 4 minutes, took it out and shook it off, then loaded the GM's into it and let it dry overnight in a cool, dry place (no accelerated heat). It's a nice case for moving light.
EDIT: Belay last. I just looked at mine. It's an actual leather one from Spoor. Looks just like it. Nevermind.

I'd like one to keep harps in the car -as opposed to the whole case- but if I'm working it's guaranteed I'll need a key outside of the 7 in the this case. Maybe if I was proficient in 1st flat and 5th...

@Buzadero - Thanks, I'll have to try that!
@eharp - Last I heard Jeff is no longer taking orders and has no plans to resume.

@ clyde- They are imitation.
Idk if soaking it in water would be a good idea/do any good as it would to a real leather case. I have one and GM's will fit fine- just work them in slowly and the slots will stretch a little over time. The magnetic clasp is the nicest part of that little case.

hey todd,
if your GMs have customs combs it may be a really, really, tight fit. i tried a GM w/ a custom comb in one of these cases and i can't imagine putting 6 more of the same in it. but maybe your combs aren't as deep as mine. ----------

as an aside, some 25 years ago i had a leather shop make me two six slot heavy duty leather harp cases. i liked my C harps to be GMs. only the key of C. everything else was smaller . the GM slot stretched out nicely for a few years. then it started to tear. now it is useless. oh well. ----------

I just received one of this cases from Rockin' Ron. I don't know how he does it.... I ordered this case on Saturday around noon, and I received it today! And his price is cheaper than I can buy them from Hohner for.
My Golden Melodies seem to fit just fine, only a tad tight, but that's a good thing as far as I'm concerned.
This is gonna help so much at SPAH! Much easier to tote than that huge stage case I have.
