@Stevelegh - LOL - Jason walked off the stage shortly after this.
I am not a JR worshiper either.....I will say this.....after hearing him play at HCH - and meeting / talking with him - - I have a NEW appreciation for both him and his music. ----------
burnside is filling all the holes of the call and response. when he's not singing, he's answering his voice w/ gtr. fills or soloing. so, of course this leaves no room for ricci. this affords ricci lots of time to drnk beer or smoke. i personally like to drink and smoke, and found negative comments directed at ricci for doing so in another post kind of funny. but i digress.
stellar fills in the few holes burnside left open. :) ----------

Reminds me of the Bean Blossom Festival last year-no body could get close enough to the stage to jam with Kenny Wayne Shepherd. You may get closer this year,as their headliner is Blackfoot.
That was the single most awkward moment at HCH-DuWayne totally upstaged him. Many a 'WTF' was exchanged.
Well, there was another awkward moment: I walked in on Charlie Sayles when he was on the stall-less throne, and looked face to face at him...it took a fair amount of the stuff in the jugs for me to unsee that.
Please accept my sincere apologies for that visual.
todd, you absolutely had to share that didn't you? well, i walked in on a large micronesian woman yesterday. now i have two images to exorcise. hope this helps. ----------

I wouldn't say DuWayne upstaged him. DuWayne was totally disrespectful and forgot who everyone was gathered up to the stage to see and what the event was all about. He didn't even offer to let Jason take a break.
Jason played a great set, but I would have loved to seen him finish with the Perry Family Band.....who seemed thrilled to be playing behind Jason.
The Perry Family Band-wow, I really enjoyed them. If at any point I'm passing thru their neck of the woods, I will for sure check local listing for their shows. They are a fantastic band. ---------- Todd L. Greene
Sorry, I knew this performance was slightly political with some people saying that Burnside burned Jason, but here's a little story:
I used to play (in fact he took over my guitar spot when I switched to keys) with a guy who really thought he was the nuts. After a solo, he'd exclaim 'that was pure Hendrix!' and he was actually proud of the fact that he could sing louder than anyone.
Question is: Was he a band member?
I see a lot of that in this vid.
Looking at the Jason vids with John Lisi, I saw a consummate musician acting as the foil to another artist.
Sorry, I sound like I'm gushing,(and I'm not) but fair play to Jason for seeing the situation and being so graceful to back off.

Actually, Jason looked a little bent after he left the stage(and rightfully so), but he regained his composure. He had to realize in hindsight he had plenty of time in the limelight;why not this cat have a little? ---------- Todd L. Greene
Sorry, that was pretty much crap. Classic guitar BS. If I'm breaking the creed somehow apologies, it was still crap. It was most therapeutic to watch Jason go through it though. He handled it very well.
First off the Perry Family band was super bad! They were so good that during our time of coming up to jam with them - when someone wasn't keeping tempo or not quite with them, they very subtly and without so much as a glance at one another dropped right in with the harp players new tempo. That was truly amazing.
What ever you feel about Jason's playing you have to give serious props top his show at HCH. He played his heart out. Plus even though they had never played together Jason and the Perry family sounded like they had been playing together forever. They were as tight or tighter than Sugar and his touring band IMHO. Watching Jason you can really see what playing 300 gigs in a year will do for your playing.
I totally dug Mr. Burnside's guitar. It was pretty hot but he really did over play his part and as a guest to the stage that was a bit rude. I really would have liked to see Burnside, Bill Howlin Mad Perry and Jason rip it up a bit. Working together and playing off of each other - that would have been pretty f#%cking cool.
ego, drugs, alcohol, drugs, lead to this kind of crap. In my younger days would have laid this riff on him when the song ended and walked off. Today I would have walked off after about a minute into the song. Walter

That night it looked to me as though (just before Jason left the stage) DuWayne ran into him and about knocked Jason down.
And watching the video, look at 7:10 to 7:20, because it is on the video. When Jason came off stage, he was not pleased, and said something about getting knocked down. ----------
thanks clamsharpplayer! I had to jump on that sad scenario. I saw it happen a million times during my playing career. Often I would punch the guy out. That got me permanently banned from Dan Lynch's which at the time was one of NYC cities top blues clubs. I don't do that kind of stuff much anymore. As you get older the easy, deep grooves, are what life is about and I would never get onstage with a loud scene like that today.
