hundreds and hundreds, but this is over 3 decades and countless gigs.
i don't kill them anymore, but eventually reeds lose their volume, crispness, overtones, etc. even if they hold their pitch.
i pull them like teeth and put in new ones. or, into the parts box they go. ----------

Not many--just two that I remember--and that was before I knew how to fix them. But I've been checking out the new Adam materials on playing hard--so I might score a few more in that process. . . ----------

I've worn out plenty of them, which ain't really breaking them. Once though, I got a brand new Hohner something-or-other and when I went to play it, I swallowed a reed on my first draw. They replaced it.
Edit to say, back in the day I stomped on a few of them out of frustration. Does that count? :-)

I've blown out about 15 Suzuki Bluesmasters in the last 5 years learning how to play. Five or six alone just learning one song.
Thanks to BBQBob, I now practise 'breath control' and my playing sounds alot better and I haven't blown out a harp in the past year.

About 20 cheap ones tossed, about 20 special 20's and various Lee Oskars. Just ordered some replacement reeds to fix some.

Every harmonica I touch dies eventually.
It's their fault they can't hang.

No more than 20 reeds for 10 years of playing. Most of them are first 3 years of playing when I was young and stupid and blew too hard ---------- Excuse my bad English. Click on my photo or my username for my music.

I am assuming part of being broke is broken reeds and not just needing to retune. That being the case, I've been playing since 2003 and have broke three reeds from playing.
Many more from tinkering...many more. ---------- Mike Quicksilver Custom Harmonicas

you know, i've never run across a dead reed from an overblow, just a little tuning is all. i have seen at least one dead reed from an overdraw though.
in howard levys new directions video he advises practicing OBs on your junker harps so you don't ruin your good ones.
thoughts?
