A year ago we converted our detached 2 car garage to self contained recording studio and kept it so it can be advertised as a second dwelling when we move on. I set this room up strictly for my musical needs. It has central air/heat, full bath, cable, internet, kitchen area, and a bed. I also have my exercise gear there. I have had 2 home studios prior to this one that were pretty funky. this one is a 40 year dream come true. I finished it this week with the addition of acoustical panels I built and hung on the walls. About a month ago I upgraded all my preamps/compressors as well. I am now set up with pro level gear. Dreams do come true if you wish on them! Walter
here are some pictures from today back to the original garage

verry cool! pro job on the construction, too.
I'll have to stop over one of these days, and jump on the control panel and play around with all the switches and gadgets...ha ha!
Only keeding, that was my m.o., as a kid.
Watch out, here comes Dennis the MENACE!

thanks guys! Now I really live in my own universe. I can't put into words what it is like to have such a space. I grew up in a 4 bedroom house with 13 people in it. I never had any space of my own. I remember sitting in the old detached garage in the middle of winter, freezing my butt off, just to have some private space and walking the streets at all hours for some. I never had my own room up until this point-living the music life I lived in all kinds of strange communal setups and then getting married at 22 kept us in 1 bdrm apts, house trailers, and such. The studio gives me creative space in spades and with my music stuff out there, it is beyond description. What a gift! thanks guys! One of my ex austin bandmates that has engineered and played on many platinum and grammy recordings has been guiding me through this process. He now teaches recording engineering at ohio state university and is just 30 minutes away. Lewis Cowdrey, a great harp/guitar/singer and an original founder of the austin blues scene, is coming up in late july to record with us. I will be studying marks every move on the engineering end. We are going to have a mini festival in the yard as well. You all will get an invite.
