Just received my latest bullet mic, a shure CR20 SLA (I was kind of hoping the CR stood for controlled reluctance but no such luck). Gotta love ebay, this sort of stuff never comes up in garage sales in Australia, and our local music store sells 520 DX's for over 300 bucks!
Anyway, between the terminals on the element is what looks like a capacitor. Then the two wires then go to a small board which has several resistors, more capacitors and a couple of unidentified components (one marked GE). Although its a low z, it reads about 500ohms after the circuit and about 15 between the terminals.
So... anybody know what all the extra circuitry is for? Must have done something, or they wouldn't have gone to the trouble. And; I'm assuming that for our purposes its better left out, but does anybody use these elements without removing the gear, and what effect would it have?

Check out this web page Lester. About 3/4 way down it mentions your mic.

Does the circuit look like this one ? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220765758350&clk_rvr_id=238644832652&item=220765758350 ---------- The Pentatonics Myspace Youtube

@7limitJI, yep, that looks very much like it. And one of the components could easily be a transistor, as in the one on ebay. There is also the capacitor at the element itself.
So what does it do?
I've tried it with and without the circuit and can't notice much difference.

I'm just guessing as I have not seen one of these mics.
The guy who sold them on e-bay claims they had a good output, so would have thought the circuit boosted the signal/changed it to high impedance.
If its not working you could buy an impedance matching transformer. Lo to Hi Z
Either an inline one, or a small one that will fit inside the shell. ---------- The Pentatonics Myspace Youtube
