When you pick up your harp for the first time in the day, what do you play? A scale? Chords? Same thing every time?

It really depends but it seems the past couple of months the majority of the time I play the C major scale in all 3 octaves up and down on a C harmonica to warm up.

I play a note on whatever harp I just picked up. I usually will start a groove in my heat in that key. I try to make the harp sound like that groove using whatever lick or pattern I think will work best.
Sometimes I nail it. Sometimes I fall short because I need to do a riff that I can't play, or can't play well enough to hold the groove. I stop and work on that. If I iron that out and the groove is still there, I try to hammer it. If not, I move one and play something else.

I usually starts with 1-3 chord vamping in different breathing patterns. This really helps to open throat and to prepare your muscles for playing. ---------- Excuse my bad English. Click on my photo or my username for my music.
