I made a stompbox about a week or so ago from a cigar box, a drum trigger, and some rubber computer feet. Been playing around with it this week, realizing how much work it is to keep a solid groove/beat by myself. I've been working on Adam's Superstition arrangement for a couple weeks and figured I'd try to put it all together tonight. This has been my progress so far. Changed around some of the riffs and veered off for just a bit. Grabbed a tambourine to make it authentic, but it's just laying on the floor while I step on it (not the ideal setup! lol). I break it down to a half time feel in the middle, then bring the tempo up to about as fast as I can play the riff. Still not a polished version or anything, but felt inspired to share and get some feedback. Like I said, brand new to this, but there's been a lot of OMB discussion on the forum lately so I figured I'd get onboard! Took me about 4 bars or so to find the tempo I was looking for but hang in there with me!

The stomp box is getting sort of an inconsistent sound. I like the harping.

I really like all this one man band stuff but I'm not at all coordinated enough to play more than one thing at a time! Cool stuff, swezey8.

I think the multiple beat sound of the foot could be effective--maybe you just need to hit it with more conviction--watch one of Adam's videos and stomp that sucker.
I have used foot drums a little--I think maybe you need to spend some time just playing the foot drum--leave the harp out of it for a while--once the foot gets grooving, add harp--just one riff at a time.
That has worked for me, anyway. Keep going with it--OMB is a great fun way to play--you can have band practice anytime you want to. . . ---------- ==================================== Always be yourself--unless you suck. . . -Joss Whedon

Thanks guys for the support and feedback! @jodan- I'm not the most coordinated either- I think it just takes practice. It's def a challenge though and I think it will eventually help my internal sense of beat
@oldwailer- Yeah, this was all just an experiment after about 4 or 5 days of messing with the stompbox and all. I think the "1-3-+1" with the pickup going into the downbeat with the foot is cool, I just need to make it consistent and engrain it all into the playing. And if I had an actual foot drum (bass drum pedal, etc.) I think it would work out a little easier. I find tapping the top of the box takes a lot of precision. But for under $20 I have something I can try this stuff out with so can't complain! Good advice on pulling the harp parts out and breaking it down like that- I'll try and hone in on it like that.
Hopefully I'll have some free time to try and work out some of these ideas and post a more refined version in a few weeks!

Here's a link to a video I made on homemade foot drums a while back--might find something you can use--and these are pretty cheap too. . .
