I have an allergy to nickel but modern harps really do not give me a problem. In the last 5 years I have had 2 minor outbreaks and have narrowed the cause down to the coverplates on well worn Harpmasters. The allergy manifests itself with blisters on the lips which if I don't stop playing end up like cold sores. I get the reaction almost immediately & providing I stop using the Harpmaster the tiny blisters disappear in a few hours...weird!
The 2 offending Harpmasters were well used & had some tarnishing on the coverplates which had probably lost their protective coating allowing for some nickel to leach out?
The problem has been fixed as one of the offending harps now sports Bluesmaster covers & the other one has been retired off.

I have an old Blues Band that's worn through the plating. I'm not allergic, but I can see the different color metal underneath. You'd think they'd be required to list that information. Maybe if you explained the problem in an email to them they'd do something about it?

Turbo lid on a SP20 will put this to rest. No metal anywhere.

Bluemoose, you'll still have the reeds inside. If you want to go full on no metal you need a Magnus plastic harmonica! I've got a couple. They come in all sorts of colors and don't look cheaply made like newer plastic harmonicas. I'm collecting them because they are the only vintage harmonicas I can afford. I'm going to make a snazzy wall display when I have enough.
