With a few friends we made a trip in Jan/ Feb 2009 which took in some mountain country and had us climb to the summit of Mt Koscuisko (Australia's highest mountain at 2228M). We were away about 2 months and the country was at the peak of a long 10 year drought, it was Summer and temperatures were in the 40's (100+F) & bushfires were raging. The day we climbed Koscuisko was their hottest day on record but a relatively cool place to be. The country in general looked crap - far too sunburnt.
In the video is a picture of a Country Pub called The Black Stump in a little town called Coolah where we spent Australia day (our National Day - 26th Jan). The day was loads of fun with all sorts of crazy events from a pie eating contest to having piggy back races around the pub carrying our wives/partners or any light weight female we could find. I played harmonica in this pub and can lay claim to it being my first paying gig. Don't ask how much I made but the free pies were worth it.
The tune is not blues...sorry. I recorded it only yesterday & put it to the pics last night. Its on a Marine Band Low E played in key of B.

That Pub has the best pies and if you were paid in them you did well. Us Kiwis were there a few years ago on a visit to Aus and loved the whole area.I never made it to the summit though...a wee bit too hungover to fancy the climb. Nice harpin' and thanks for rekindling some great memories
Thanks for your comments Seven Oh Three, nacoran & Jehosaphat.
@ Jehosaphat Yeah I did ok with the pies. They were donated by the local bakery across the road from the pub. From what I heard our Aussie pies were high on the menu in Christchurch in the days after the earthquake? We climbed the summit of Kosciusko which I think is around 12k(round trip) from the top of the chairlift. Not difficult for us oldies in our 70's but without hangovers.
