I hate, with a passion, political correctness. I believe it has created a society where many people are paranoid about speaking plainly for fear of causing offence in some way they could never realise.

What I hate even more, is when people use an 'anti-PC' stance as an excuse to spout intolerant ignorant and blatantly offensive tosh with reckless abandon.

I was trying to explain this to a colleague at work the other day. As he is an amputee with an artificial leg I explained it to him thusly:

'It is the difference between you taking offence over me calling you "hop-along", which is disrespectful and insulting, and you taking offence over me saying "I got completely legless on Saturday night" which is a standard everyday phrase (means very drunk in the UK) and is plainly not intended to cause offence or upset.'

Sorry if that all sounds a bit serious, but this issue struck a nerve with me.

Bluemoose, well played!

For the record, I don't have any videos up, but there are clips of me playing floating around. I'm easier on the ears than on the eyes, and if you've heard my clips you know that's saying something!

Keep up the good work mods, Adam an all serious poster's, this is one of the few intersesting fora's, I dont need to struggle through tons of BS and opinions before getting to an answer.

I can imagine that it is a difficult job too. Managing a line that isnt written, so thanks!

I'm a recent joinee here, and I like the forum. I joined because I'm a 59 yr. old traditional blues harper-- having played since the mid 60's-- and I wanted to expand my playing and thinking borders. I think the earlier post mentioning the name of this forum (use of the term "modern") possibly hit at one of the hearts of the issue. Traditionally oriented people are mebbe gonna have a few eyebrow raising experiences here, and if you're intolerant, that'll cause issues.
As regarding Jason, if you're real conservative and old-fashioned, that guy's gonna scare the hell outa you... especially 'cuz he's such a good musician.
I wouldn't do some of the things Jason probably has, but I wouldn't do alot of the things I've done in my life either.:)
Some forum members just don't behave right. That's it.

BTW, I'll come out myself: I'm an old, fat, gray, traditional, conservative Christian bluesharper, and I really like Jason. I've only heard him play live twice, but it was his attitude that he impressed me. I saw him at a fest with Walter Trout on the bill, and Jason got into a goodnatured head-cuttin' session with Walter, but the look of respect and pure joy on Jason's face when Walter was soloin' told me that he is a guy who respects the blues and its traditions.
Also, there's players who play a ton of notes that don't make sense or sound good, and there's guys who know where every one of the million notes lead to, and Jason is the second kind.

I use to think that myself, but a songwriter friend of mine once told when I said that.

Its what we do in this life that make us who we are,the Good, the Bad or the indifferent.
