Thanks, guys. My idea of a great morning was getting up fairly early and running 14 miles up into and down out of the hills. I'm getting ready for our annual "Double Decker" 10K on April 30th. I haven't been doing ideal training, but I'm experienced enough to know how to peak in four weeks based on what I've got. That meant that I backed Friday's 9.5 miles (with 2 x mile @ 6:36 pace and 2 x 800 at 6:15 pace) with a fast finish run today. Fast finish means that you run most of a long run at a moderate pace and then run the last mile at 10K pace--which is to say, very hard, right when your body is running low on steam. I managed to hold 6:45 pace for about 2/3rds of a mile before slowing. Not bad for 53. They'll have to carry me out with my boots--ah, my running shoes--on.
Sorry for the OT dump, but we aging codgers need to talk phys ed on our birthdays. Makes us feel like we've got a few good years left.
Lol, funny with the video Adam. Let's see, back in your prime that video would have featured Yifter doing the passing at that distance. (5K, yes?) Shame we missed the 1980 Olympics.
Great that you are still knocking out the Mid 6 minute mile repeats and testing yourself. I know what you mean about talking phys ed on the birthdays, I just turned 47 yesterday. Sadly I can't run any more without causing myself more problems than it's worth, due to some knee surgeries. Never the less, I still routinely crush guys 20 years younger in other physical pursuits. But then most folks these days are in such terrible physical condition it's shocking. Does get tougher every year though, doesn't it?
Anyway, Happy Birthday Adam! Thank you for the Harp playing inspiration, and thanks for this forum. Run on brother, run on!
Happy b-day. I'll be turning the big 52 with you in June. I dont think i'll attempt a run on my b-day maybe a bicycle ride- easier on the back. See ya at HCH
