I had a conversation with Jason Ricci the other night, and he has a Hohner Star of David MB that he thinks is an early 40s model. It is in playable condition now, but he is contemplating doing a custom job as he's done in the past with this one, and selling it. If you've seen his work before, you'll know he is very artistic in his approach to the aesthetics. Tell me what you think and I will relay this to him. Please note that I have absolutely nothing to gain from this;I'm simply helping a brother out.

if i remember correctly, his other custom harps went for over $400. i find it a little hard to believe that he is anywhere near the skill level of customizing as some of the other, well respected customizers are. (or were. RIP, chris.) but then some folks would appreciate just having ricci's name attached to something.

I have the HG50 1210 that he used for two gigs and on the HarpGear site. Does that make it worth a lot of money? Might be a good time to flip it...
Related, I was hoping to find some non-toxic nail polish to make an attempt to do some art work on a couple of my combs, but it looks hard to find. I think I found some online, though. ---------- Mike Quicksilver Custom Harmonicas Updated 3/17/11

Mike Is there a CVS where you live? They have a display there. The brand is "10". 401 perfecly clear. I have found that the nontoxic nail polish doesn't last long. My daughter said it starts to get thicker after its been open alot. I didn't know what the hell that meant, but now I do. When you get to about half empty it starts getting harder to apply. Must be what ever thinning agent is in it disapates everytime you open it up, but it works very well for a little while!

Jason made me two back in 2008. They are among my most treasured possessions, a Bb Golden Melody with a Rosewood comb and a prewar A MB. The Bb is still my main Bb. The Marine Band A needs a lot of work to get it back in playing condition, I just haven't found the time. They mean a lot not only because they are awesome, but the fact they came from a friend. When he sold those select few on Ebay, I remember there was a huge bidding war and they were going for crazy, crazy amounts, as much as $600, I think one of them went for. There is definitely some interest out there. Todd, please tell him Dave Payne says "hey."
