so dave,

now that you are no longer w/ harrison are you a Seydel dealer again?

if so, i know at least one person who wants the toolkit w/ the de-riveter.

you know, i modified my de-riveter with a stack of 7 pieces of masking tape to shorten the pin.

now i can remove a donor reed w/ the rivet still in the reed seat. this is especially good for draw reeds on MB types where the screws and nuts won't work cuz the comb is in the way. ----------

They'll still work, by grinding or cutting a relief in the comb to clear the screw head. I prefer to tap threads in the reed plate and screw the reed down.

yeah wrench,
very true.

i've done it that way too. there is less margin for error.

i'm just experimenting. maybe i just wanted to put my anvil to use cuz i like to hit the harp back for all of the years of pain.

alright dave!
now i know where to get screws. you go to seydelusa and they don't tell you much of anything. like what's in the toolkit? or, who do i e-mail for stuff? rupert oysler?

if you use scotch brand 3M tape it's 7 pieces. i don't know if other brands are thicker or thinner.

i cut the 7 piece stack in half and put a stack on either side of the pin.
this works about ten times before it starts to compress and the rivet shoots out like a missile.(great for clowning around shooting people). rather than add tape, i just start w/a new stack. this is because you run the risk of the rivet and reed winding up still attached to the plate. if so, out come the end cutters.....----------

It was actually a great experience and my pleasure. I knew where you guys were coming from and it was ok.. Most everybody treated me with respect and thats all you can ask for. Now I was a United Airlines reservation agent on 9/11. That was a different story...

@ MP Here's a breakdown of the kit

thanks dave,
i love those tools. the screwdriver is the best one i've ever owned. great file, etc.
the pincers for nail pulling are okay but i went down to home depot and got a $9 mini-end cutter that is flush. i can remove any and all nails w/out prying up on the reed plates. that way you don't bend plates or ding combs or even bend the heads of the nails.

Here's the rest of the story on my short United Airlines career. I used to book people on United 93 all the time. I did mileage award flights and seats were very limited, because paid tickets had priority. If i couldn't get anything out of JFK or LaGuardia, I could usually get them on a morning flight out of Newark, 93 and a couple of others. When 93 went down in Pennsylvania, i tried to see if anybody i had booked was on it, but United removed the passenger manifests and reservations immediately, probably because people like me would be looking for them. For years, I thought i had booked a family of six on UA 93 on 9/11. I couldn't get them seat assignments together out of NYC... So I put them on there. About a year ago, I looked at the passenger list and saw there was no family of six on it. They either didn't make the flight or I remembered the day wrong.

The CSR hell was in the days after that, nobody knows what's going, people were stranded for two weeks before we could get them back. Once we got everybody home, they laid of 20,000 i think of us, including me and my wife.

Also MP, I use a pin vise I got for $5 instead of the one in the kit. I like it better.

yeah, the pin vise doesn't grip the reamer thingys tightly. that's the only thing i use it for since i don't want a handle on my files. i put a small piece of insulated wire in there to take up space so it'll grip them better.
